Description
Baarle's beer brewed in the traditional way. The brewery was founded in 2007 by Monique and Ronald Mengerink. Behind their house in the Pastoor de Katerstraat they built a brewing installation with six 1000 liter lager tanks. Due to the growing success the brewing kettles moved to Gierlestraat in 2014. In January 2017, the brewery moved again to a new location in the Oordeelsestraat. With their third expansion in ten years Ronald and Monique are able to increase the capacity of the brewery to 50 hectoliters per brew and 100 hectoliters per day.

Bottle at National Winter Ales Festival, Manchester 2008 poured a murky hazy gold colour with a thin white head. Quite fruity with some nice lemon touches very much in evidence, in fact it tasted similar to a wheat, I really liked this beer.

Draught Kerstbierfestival 2007: Poured a copper orange color with off white head. The aroma is sweet with juniper, wheat and oates. The taste is a sweet smoked but not over the top as some can be.

Draught Hazy foxy orange; very small off-white head. Smoked, (pine)woody, lightly phenolic nose, bit of juniper branch aroma. Again quite smoked in taste, both beechwood & ham. Slight sweetness in the background. Pretty complex, even when not equal to a Merz/Schlenkerla. Phenolics on the ramp in the palate, medium bodied. Just as other Belgian smoked beers, it seems to miss a certain ich sollte nicht genau wissen wass . Still, this is one to try if you can find it.

Little whitish rim; (cold) hazy pale amber ale. Grain, graindust, chaff, and slightly manure (not too bad), as well as moss. Very grainy taste - this really lives up to the breweries’ name. Bit of caramel retronasal, sweet ending. Light to medium bodied, grist slickness, not particulary wheat (wheat being used in the recipe). Not undeserving - unpretentious but overall quite OK beer.
