Cask at the White Lion, Fewcott, Oxon, 05-08-07 Quite refreshing biitter, poured dark golden with nice white busy head. Bit weak on the nose but pleasingly bitter and quite nice session beer, some hops in the mouth, sweet malty undertones and touch dry at the end.

Cask gravity at Rare Breeds BF 2007. Amber, lasting thin tight beige head. Malty bitter, some earthyness. Not a great amount of flavour, finish is not very hoppy. Bit dull

Spoke with the brewer via email and he has renamed this beer in order to tie it to Wales.
Not surprised to see that their bottles are bottle conditioned (and probably lightly filtered at most?), as this was quality stuff. Not in peak condition, perhaps, as there was a smidgeon of yeast doughiness/blandness, but you can’t hold the brewer to blame for that.
Still a great apperance. Moderate sized white head shows good retention and light lacing. Body is a very deep golden with brass and light maize highlights. Mostly bright condition.
Fruity nose (hops) with light esters, and a very strong malt character adding a very dry, cereal-like aroma, replete with peaches and nectarines. Citric hops are fresh and appealing, adding a fair amount of aroma. Very crisp on the finish, though a little yeastiness sneaks in there. No flaws.
Easygoing, but ample maltiness is full of light honey and whitebread notes. Some moderate graininess on the finish, but overall, very well malted and not overly attenuated. Plentiful fruity/citrusy hops are delightful and give a lively bubbliness to the flavor. Crisp bite at the finish signifies some hop bitterness. Very well-balanced and a great example of the style. Medium-bodied, no flaws/alcohol. Fairly engaging carbonation.

Bottle kindly picked up for me by Gaz, a friend who lives up in north Wales. Poured dark golden in colour with a small white head, this was most unlike the two other Great Orma bottled beers tried this evening in that it had a very striking nose which was very hoppy, also quite easily the best of the three beers. A lovey subtle citrus taste that seemed to be very well balanced with nice underlying honey sweetness, very moreish and really tasty would really like to try this in cask format.

Bottle kindly picked up for me by Gaz, a friend who lives up in north Wales. Dark amber coloured beer with small white head. Another decent malty and hoppy effort from Great Orme but again the aroma was less noticeable, pleasant sweet and soft malty flavours witha hint of fudge coming through with each glug, bitterness was there but came through at the end. According to the blurb on the bottle, described as ’being like the IPA’s of old’ I didn’t quite get that as I didn’t think it was bitter enough, but still it was a nice beer and drank much easier than the 5% abv.

Bottle kindly picked up for me by Gaz, a friend who lives up in north Wales. This beer poured amber and looked good, it was pleasant enough with some hops, a good malty and restrained bitter flavour. Nice easy drinking beer.
