Blue bomber from Alldaydrinker; Nose is berries, yeast, toffee, brown sugar, and some barleywine-like aged odors; clear red- amber with a very small off-white head, the bottle gave a little poof of gas when opened; flavor is dark fruit, brown sugar, mild sweetness, and alcohol warmth; finish is alcohol with a little sweetness. Tastes like a cross between a very good barleywine and an excellent European Strong Lager!

Bottle courtesy of Steve (hopdog). Thanks! Pours muddy orangish-brown with just a slight hint of head. Very sweet aroma of brown sugar and rum. Thin mouthfeel. Taste of raisin and brown sugar. No bitterness.

2003 Version - 750 ml bottle shared by Zinister, 6th bottle sampled at the 1/28 Houston tasting. Pour is cloudy bronze with cheddar cheese orange highlights [TM]. Only a few dirty white bubbles cling to the edge of the glass. Aroma of deep caramel sweetness, raisins, a bit of oxidation and heat. Taste starts with the sweet molasses, dried fruit, raisin, then gives way to a surprisingly thin finish. Some lingering oxidation, heat and syrup sweetness. I was surprised at how much heat this still had on it. Thanks for sharing this rare beer Mike.

Really cool, unique, classic looking bottle that looks like something you’d find on a deserted island. From that bottle, a flat, opaque, slightly watery deep brown brew pours with absolutely zero head with some very faint sediments setting on the side of the glass. Strong aroma of roasted malts. nuts, alcohol, expresso/coffee, brandy, chocolate. Their description says the nose has citrus and floral notes, I’ll let you decide whether that’s true, but if they are there, I wished they were a tad more prominent. Flavor has plenty of roaste malt, coffee, touches of maple syrupy, wood, whiskey, oak, vanilla, soy, choclate and nuts. Finish is very oily, my guess is the alcohol doesn’t help the texture or mouthfeel. Lasting flavor is a bit nutty, coffee bitterness and plenty of legs from the heavy alcohol (think a glass of Johnny Walker). Pretty good, individually the aroma, flavor and finish are good, but it’s not a great marriage. Got a few bottles in the cellar, hopefully things mesh better with age.

Well aged. No carbonation at all, but good flavor and aroma. Sweet with lots of sugar. Some caramel, fermenting fruit. Some hops. Nice, smooth mouthfeel, great on the palate. Very light oak.

Bottle courtesy of jjpm74: Poured a deep dirty brown color ale with a tiny head with minimal retention and no lacing. Aroma of deep caramel and toffee malt with some raspberry notes also noticeable. Taste is dominated by some sweet malt with some hint of raspberry and blackberry. Body is full and carbonation is very low but no alcohol was noticeable. Very well done and I observe some resemblance with Kuhnhenn Raspberry eisbock even though they are two very different beers.

Courtesy of Solan. Pours orange-ish copper with thin weak off white head. The aroma is mostly the barrel aged-ness and initially not much else. If I really concentrate I can just get some weak malt sweetness behind the wood and whiskey. The taste starts sweet and sticky then becomes woody and whiskey fortified. The barrel age aspect of the beer just takes too much of the flavor and hides almost all of the barleywine notes. I can just pick up faint dark fruit notes and faint caramel as just a murmur behind the whiskey. This wasn’t nearly as nice as the 2005.

Bottle Thanks to kramer17801 for this one. Pours a clear amber color with a small off-white head. Malty alcoholic caramel aroma with hints of dark fruit. Sweet malty dark fruit flavor with hints of alcohol and caramel. Sweet malty finish with a bitter aftertaste.

I think dragonstout brought this one, thanks! Big acrid chocolate roast malt aroma. Good bittersweet chocolates throughout. Surprisingly smooth for its strength and bigness. Finish is roasty, semi-dry even. Very dark brown color but not opaque. Nice one.

Big thanks to matta for sharing this vintage ale. Pours hazy copper with weak off white head. The aroma is very barleywine like with figs and prunes mixed with a load of caramel candy, toffee, brown sugar and a hint of honey. There is a good sense of alcohol too but certainly in line with a brew carrying this high of an ABV. The taste begins very barleywine like as the nose had with lots of yummy caramel candy laced with dates, figs and prunes. The next note is muted spicy and floral hops mixed with booze, wood, sugar and toffee. Wow. Very interesting. A pleasant mixture for sure. Toward the finish the flavor dwindles down to caramel candy, some dark fruity ester, booze and fur tree. The caramel lingers forever.
