Draught at the brewery, 7/14/17.
Dark ebony of undetermined clarity with a light tan head atop showing strong retention.
Proper balance of both base malt and roasted creating both caramel, coffee and light vanilla notes. The smoke is light and runs underneath adding a light charred character on the back end. No alcohol whatsoever and light vinous notes (running a touch sharp, however). Caramel, treacle, toffee and prune linger with the light charred character adding more complexity.
Soft and malty with a solid sweetness to balance the roasted character, as in the nose. Fruity and yet full of milk chocolate and caramel with salty char sitting enjoyably on the finish alongside light vinousness and a touch of warmth from the alcohol. Low but tight carbonation and a very rich, but amply attenuated and still drinkable Imperial Stout.

Draught at 3 Tides, 6/17/17.
Light amber with copper-golden hues, high clarity and a medium-sized, off-white head atop showing moderate to moderately-strong retention.
Fresh, grainy, lightly bready nose reminds of freshly-baked sourdough. There’s plenty of base malt "softness" to it, however; it’s not all specialty malt and melanoidin-like acidity. Soft fruit esters caress the nose, as well, displaying strawberry and apple prominently which works nicely with the malt. Pepper and grass from the hops sit in the background as the beer is mainly a product of malt and yeast. Clean and obviously no alcohol apparent.
Malty and well-attenuated and with a shockingly soft, supple texture that displays none of the astringency or huskiness one might expect from excess grain tannin being exposed. While it is certainly light and refreshing, with a grainy, bready, lightly fruity, crisp finish, it still drinks like a "normal" beer. Not thin or watery in the least. Superb balance with lovely hay, pepper and grass lingering amidst the fruity esters, on the finish. Impressive stuff.

Draft at Mikkeller & Friends in Reykjavik. Black pour with a tan, creamy head and evident lacing. Aroma is primarily coffee. Taste is bitter, with lots of roasted coffee. Finish is long and bitter. Okay, but nothing exceptional.

Draft @ When Pigs Fly. 4.75 oz. glass. Appearance is a clear amber. Aroma is toffee, earthy grain, mild herbal hop. Yeah, not going to be long winded on this review. The flavor is exactly the aroma. Earthy grain backbone with a mild herbal hop that is balanced by some toffee seeetness. Decent. About what I was expecting.

Poured into an English pint glass, the appearance was a dark black color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that dissipated at a gentle pace. Sly stringy lace.
The aroma had some swift sweet dark fruits, milk and dark chocolate, little bit of earthy hop spice, grassy sweet hops, sweet coffee notes, roasted coffee beans and a touch of vanilla at the very end.
The flavor slyly moved the sweetness into the roast and pulled out a little bit of clean driftwood to touch the aftertaste in the same semi-sweet to roasty way. Finish was somewhat smooth and lenient towards the dark fruits.
The palate was about medium bodied with a fair sipping quality about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt fine. Pretty smooth along my tongue.
Overall, pretty nice American styled Baltic porter to me. Need more trips to Maine!

Reviewed from notes.
Poured into a pilsener glass, the appearance was a semi-dark brown color with a two finger off white foamy head that dissipated at a decent pace. Messy sliding lace.
The aroma had some dark bread, baker’s chocolate, grassy to earthy hops, sweet coffee notes, light toast, and some dark fruits.
The flavor was moderately sweet with the malty tones pulling the hops down pretty low as I hoped it would. Nice long bready aftertaste and finish.
The palate was almost medium bodied but sitting just a touch under with a practically perfect smooth sessionable sort of feel rolling over my tongue. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt good.
Overall, really nice doppelbock well worthy of having again.
