Description
Residents of Boston’s North Shore were first introduced to Ipswich Ale during the spring of 1991. With over 30 years of history behind it, Ipswich Ale has been in existence longer than nearly every other craft brewer in New England. Since that time, the Ipswich Ale portfolio of brands have developed into a tradition shared by not only the residents of eastern Massachusetts, but across New England.
Took over production for Newburyport Brewing in 2019, before both breweries were acquired by Huntwicke Capital Group later that year.
Began a partnership with RiverWalk Brewing in late 2023, moving the bulk of production to RiverWalk's facilities, while leaving a small pilot system in Ipswich for small batch and experimental brews.

From old tasting notes. Copper red color topped by a big bubbly beige head. Fragrant toasted malt aroma. Delicious toasted malt flavor hints at clover and cracked wheat. Wonderful bitter hop finish. Nicely balanced.

Bottle: Cloudy, yellow/amber with a thick, off-white head. Grapefruit, pine scent. Slightly sweet citrus, grapefruit, grain malt taste.....followed by a mild, but steady and slightly spicy peel bitter. A little tangerine, pineapple in there, also. Very solid and enjoyable.

650 ml bottle shared by T.J, much thanks! 11/02/16. Full fluffy off-white had on a pitch black liquid. Aroma is strong espresso bean, chocolate, ash, roast.
Flavor is strong roasted coffee beans, cocoa, and a bitter chocolate center. The finish is all coffee. Body is medium plus with a creamy texture. Just an ass load of coffee!

Poured into a snifter, the appearance was a ruddy burnt amber to brown color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that dissipated at a moderate pace. Stringy glossy lace.
The aroma has some toffee malts, figs, super light amount of chocolate and toast. Vanilla sweetness as well.
The flavor leans malty sweet with a graceful attempt of low grassy bittering hops. Toasty vanilla warmth enters in on the aftertaste with the finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sessionable to sipping quality about it. Alcohol warmth wants to show some pizzazz but maintains a good background. Slyly smooth on my tongue.
Overall, really nice English styled strong ale perfect for this time of the year, of course I would have this again.
