Gravicask at Reading Beer Festival 08. Dark brown body with ruby highlights. Thin, but lasting beige head. Strong - very strong - hoppy content in aroma and taste. Nice gliding transition from a piny hop aroma to a darker hoppy taste. Full of dark and dried fruits complemented by dark berries and a solid bitter ending. It surely needs more than one sampling to really appreciate its complexity, so I’ll be looking for this great brew for later enjoyment (02.05.2008).

Dark, rusty body. No head. Roasted chocolate malt in aroma well integrated with the following flavour of liquorice, coffee and dark chocolate. Good mouthfeel. 4.7% ABV in the Reading Beerfest program (gravicask, sampled with Finn at the festival, 02.05.2008).

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol 7/5/08. Deep brown with a decent tan head. Plenty of slightly roasted malt and red fruit in the aroma. More of the same in the flavour, with a touch of chocolate malt and some earthy hops in the finish. Enjoyable.

Cask at Reading Beer Festival 02-05-08 following a two hour queue to get in grrrr! Pours mid amber with a nice white bubbly head that swiftly departs. Aroma was honey, yeast and hops but not as full on hoppy as I anticipated. The first mouthfull made me think that it was quite sticky sweet but the the hops burst through sticking to the cheek pouches and teeth enamel. Wonderfully fruity, tropical fruit abound as does some sweet tangerines and honey again. A great beer that I would love to try again at some point.

Cask conditioned at the Royal Oak, Bath 21/2/08. Near black with a moderate tan head. Aroma of dark fruits, marzipan, tobacco and a whiff of roastiness. The mouth feel was full and vinous, with some more chunky sweetness, chocolate, dark fruit and a lingering, warming alcohol finish. The best beer I have drunk for many months.

Creamy without being sweet creamy. Some dryness on finish. More dark chocolate. Pretty good I thought.

Cask conditioned gravity, White Cliffs BF 08. Even though the Oakham’s was good, this was beer of the festival for me. A genuine English IIPA. Reddy russet colour with very lasting dark beige head. Big PNW grapefruit aroma. Raspberry/strawberry too. Stunningly well balanced. Malts are syrupy, but not too much so. Then this big hit of hop kicks in. Stunning grapefruit hop. I’ve not had an English beer like it.

Cask-conditioned at the Crosshands, Fishponds, Bristol 28/10/07. Pale amber with a moderate white head that left rings down the glass. Touch of sweet malt aroma with some grassy hops. Flavour of biscuit malt before a hoppy finish. Unlike other raters, my beer was served in good condition.
