12oz bottle. Ruby brown-amber color with a respectable head. Sweet, fresh, and malty aroma. Sweet and smooth, a pretty well-executed Dopplebock, though it lacks some of the fruity/pungent yeast nuances found in some German examples. Creamy, with a balanced bitter edge. Really covers the alcohol well. Full flavored, but completely sessionable. Good stuff, way underrated.

12oz bottle. The color is a tan-orange, which immediately strikes me as un-Kolschlike. The aroma is mild and sweet. Not a bad beer, just misses the style. Not unlike an Amber really. Hmm. Some interesting smooth malty tones going on, quite earthy. Almost more of a hoppy light Alt. Disappointing, especially if you are looking for a crisp, light beer. I think it’s about time team Cape Ann took a trip to the Rhineland.

Small dark-beige head over jet-black beer. Liquorice & lavender, pine or spruce, but not hoppy. Slightly peppery aroma too, maybe. Sweet, smoked and very roasted. Jumble of spices throughout, but no way of telling what - except some cinnamon impression. Bit uneasy balance. Medium bodied, very slick, grist. Not bad, but I get the impression that the intended flavours don’t work optimally together. Big thnaks to DavidA!
