Description
Labatt has deep roots in Canada stemming from its founder John Kinder. In 1847, a little more than a decade after arriving in London, Ontario from Ireland, John Kinder Labatt purchased London's Simcoe Street brewery in partnership with Samuel Eccles and by 1855 had become the brewery's sole proprietor. The brewery was later renamed John Labatt's Brewery, marking the beginning of one of Canada's largest and most successful companies.

In 1995, it was purchased by Belgian brewer Interbrew. Labatt is now part of the new company, Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev).

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured bright golden color with a large yellow-white head that fades fairly quickly but produces decent lacing. The aroma was sweet, sour, tangy and corny industrial lager. The flavor is sweet, tangy and lemony. There is a light yeasty and peppery undertone and a long tart finish. Surprisingly tasty.

Keg at a party and my first pale lager rating. Pours pale yellow with a white head. Tastes and smells lightly of slightly sweet pale malts. Frankly better than other light macros I’ve had, at least when cold. As it warms, it gets less appetizing, but still doesn’t come too close to the gag-inducing horribleness of other macros.

11.5oz bottle-pours a white head and pale yellow color. Aroma is sweet grain, clean. Taste is sweet grain/light malt, crisp, some continental/spice hops. Light side of medium body. Fizzy.

Pours dark brown/black with tan head. Roasted malt aroma. Sweet roated malt flavor with lots of bitterness. Mediun to full body with minimal carbonation.

24 oz. can, as "MAX ICE." Pours some frothy beastliness, to be sure. Head leaves scraggly big bubbles sulking around the edge of my plastic glass. Dark yellowish orange. Smell of grain and corn squeezin’s. Yeah, there’s plenty of malt in here, but then they threw in more alcohol-producing stuff like corn, fortified wine, ethanol. Tastes better right out of the can, for a good aluminum twang. Not too bad as malt liquors go.

Light Canadian lager, bottle poured into glass, not a whole lot of flavors going on. Very refreshing but dull.

From a 12 oz balack can. Ubiquitous pale yellow but a decent creamy thin head. Fairly clean aroma, reminds me a bit of the niagara river and a litttle soap. Does have a tad of that cheap ice beer flavor but much less than I expected. You can only tell its there after you swallow. Surpisingly good lacing on the side of my glass, like the see thru lingere of yer favorite girlfriend. Towards the end it is a bit difficult but yet does not leave its manners behind. Comes across more like a heavy lager with a bit more alky rather than a cheap ice beer. Finish is a somewhat coarse but remains gentlemanlike thru the session.

Decent taste and aroma. A little hop bittterness in there but mostly well mannered and fresh. Enjoyable good crisp feel. Finish is acceptable for the most part. Good session brew and it goes down fairly easy. Overall, enjoyable and refreshing.

bouteille 341ml.
