Microbrewery
in Rebecq,
Walloon Brabant,
Belgium 🇧🇪
Associated Venue: Gueuzerie Tilquin
Established in 2009
Description
The Gueuzerie Tilquin began operations in February 2009. It was 12 years that a new gueuze-producer had emerged in Brabant (the previous was Geuzestekerij De Cam in Gooik, which began in 1997).
The Gueuzerie Tilquin is the first gueuze blendery in Wallonia. The company is located in Bierghes (Rebecq), 200 meters from the linguistic border, and is directed by Pierre Tilquin. Pierre is bio-engineer and holder of a PhD in statistical genetics. He then followed an intensive course in brewing science in Leuven, and he had his experience at the brewery Huyghe (Melle), 3 Fonteinen (Beersel) and Cantillon (Anderlecht).

Pours clear, amberblonde. medium sized, very stable white head. Scent is very funky, woody, smells way older than i'd expect. Taste is sharp, less funky than expected. Mildly woody, certainly acidic, but balanced. Old Oak, citrussy. the 40/60 is perhaps a touch more outspoken, intense, but less on the citrussy, fruity side. both are pretty good, this one being the (very close) second for me.

Pours clear, amberblonde. medium sized, very stable white head. Scent is very funky, mushroomy, slighlty woody,. 60/40 scented more like what I'd expect from this one, this one is the expectations on steroids. Taste is sharp, very similar to the other one. perhaps feels a bit more 'deepened out'. not more acidic, but longer lasting, more complex, more up front and longer lasting. Gives in on the citrussyness the 60/40 excelled at. I perhaps slightly enjoy this one a touch more, but it's very close.

(Bottle) Reddish amber colour, leaning towards purple. Slightly hazy. Foamy, brief head. Fruity nose with notes of blueberries, blackberries, citrus, barnyard and a slight vinegar touch. Fruity, tart taste with blueberries, blackberries, oak wood, citrus, barnyard, funk and a finish with a generous acidity. Medium body, mainly dry, but some berry sweetness is still around. Fresh and tart with a good blueberry character. Very nice.

Gold with a mild haze. Aroma promises green apple and white wine with subtle oak undertones. Taste is tart throughout, moderate acidic, with a mild, oak-like bitterness at the finish. Body to the light side of medium, prickly carbonation. Not bad.

That’s very good stuff. Funky and clean, notes of pale wood, lemon peel, straw. Moderate acidity. Decent salinity. Extremely drinkable. No off notes, really. Exceptional.
