Description
The Gueuzerie Tilquin began operations in February 2009. It was 12 years that a new gueuze-producer had emerged in Brabant (the previous was Geuzestekerij De Cam in Gooik, which began in 1997).

The Gueuzerie Tilquin is the first gueuze blendery in Wallonia. The company is located in Bierghes (Rebecq), 200 meters from the linguistic border, and is directed by Pierre Tilquin. Pierre is bio-engineer and holder of a PhD in statistical genetics. He then followed an intensive course in brewing science in Leuven, and he had his experience at the brewery Huyghe (Melle), 3 Fonteinen (Beersel) and Cantillon (Anderlecht).

Bouteille 37.5cl, BB 01/06/2028.

Pours clear , darker yellowblonde. Small white head fades instantly. Scent is sharp brett, mild touch of oak, bit citrus. taste is very easy going. A significantly sharp, citrussy, grainy 'geuze'. brett is there, but the complexity and intensity of a real geuze isn't matched. But as a canned, festival-fit beer this is a really cool one.

375ml during spontaneous mini-tasting @ Ryan's.
Aroma: a lot of funk, some manure, fruity notes.
Taste: along the same lines, nicely aggressive, woody, tannic. Tastes kinda oxidized, though.
Overall: pleasant.

Once again the family of Pierre Tilquin branches out, with three new additions to this series, which has been nothing less but glorious so far; in this case, a great-great-great-grandmother called Angélique is commemorated, with a blend of only 2 and 3 year old lambics. Quite thick, egg-white, papery lacing, fluffy, stable, dense head on an initially clear, warm 'old golden' robe with apricot tinge and a whirlwind of champagne-like sparkling throughout. Aroma of fresh orange pith, unripe mandarin, freshly cut Granny Smith apples, medium dry sherry, old wood, dusty attic, dry haystack, hard unripe nectarine, green plum, dried out white bread, touch farmland in the background. Very crisp onset, lots of fruity esters and lively acidity in a fruity, citric way, impressions of Granny Smith apple (pronounced), green plum, yuzu and kiwiberry, with a strong, 'mountain stream'-like minerality running underneath; champenoise effervescence continues through a rounded bready core soaked in sour-fruitiness, complex acidity and drying woodiness, which in the end meets a retronasal dry farmland-ish funky touch yet maintains its vibrant, crisp and citric juiciness till the last drop (also because old hop bitterness is fairly 'silent' here - though necessary, and subtly palpable underneath it all). This Mrs. Angélique must have been a feisty lady, with such a vibrant, juicy and citrusy geuze posthumously representing her - one of the more 'refreshing' geuzes in this series so far, I guess, but still with this sherry-like tone constantly present in the background, as a continuous reminder that only old(er) lambics were used. This combination of crispness and maturity is absolutely beautiful - a geuze in the prime of its life, so to speak. No matter what blends come out in this series, each and every one of them has been excellent so far, with many at world class level in the genre. This one is no exception.

375 ml bottle. Pours a dull amber with no head. Aromas of barnyard, white wine, and wheaty malts. Flavors follow same with more grape skin. Kinda hard to tell the difference with other Tilquin Meerts though.
