Thought the name was amusing so bought a can at the LCBO in Hamilton. Light cloudy gold with a lime green tint and a musty pear aroma. Light bodied and very dry. The taste is pear, tart a bit earthy and dry with a residual sweetness. Not bad though most ladies who tried it were looking for something sweeter.

Can: Poured alight black color stout with a large light brown foamy head with good retention. Aroma of nice floral coffee notes, with some hazelnut and chocolate notes also prevalent. Taste is a nice mix between floral coffee notes with limited bitterness, hazelnut and light black chocolate notes with hints of residual sugar notes. Body is about average with good carbonation. I wasn’t expecting much but this is a pleasant surprise.

Pours a dark brown colour with a big frothy mocha-coloured head, good retention and some thick foamy lace. Big aromas of soft vanilla over chocolate that comes out eventually and hints of roasted malts in the background. The coffee comes out a little more in the taste, but mostly blended with the roasted malts in the finish. The vanilla is quite light here as well. Hints of dark fruits. Wet mouthfeel with a slight tart from the coffee particles. Goes down very well, with a sweet vanilla nose, but a more coffee-bitter flavour. A flavoured stout you can have many.

It’s not too often that I see my regulars giving a higher rating for a beer than the crowd, but in this case a 3.3 from Freaky_tiki makes it interesting. This beer was chosen for my by my daughters as a birthday present, so take note cartoons on a can are a real draw fro 3 and 5 year old girls. Pours a rich, clear golden with a reliable finger of head. Nose is very malty with sunny hay with syrup in the nose that overlays any hops. Taste is equally heavy on the malts, with mild sweetness and heavier on the bittering hops which linger. Not much of an IPA, especially by today’s hop-bomb standards, but drinkable. I suppose it’s training wheels approach to hops is the sessionable part of this beer, rather than the booze level. Personally I don’t care about the IBU if they are well balance, as I’ve given hop-adverse folks hop-bombs that they love, so maybe training wheels shouldn’t be necessary.

(can) clear, amber colour with a small beige head; aroma of fruit compote; simple, balanced flavour (that is if you can find any flavour), I have had brown ales with more hops than this...
