50cl bottle. It pours and orange/amber colour - maybe lava is a closer description. There are gentle bubbles and a very generous head. The nose has grapefruits and a hint of honey. The taste has sweet malt, more grapefruit and a touch of toffee on the end. The palate shows a tastey medium-bodied beer with a fairly clean finish. Overall, a very sessionable beer if not a world-beater!

This time the nose has more floral notes going on. Also, more on the taste and overall experience. Previous rating 22/04/11 7/4/6/3/13 = 3.3 50cl bottle. It pours a clear lemon with steady bubbles and a lovely head. The nose is of pine and fresh-cut grass. The taste has lemon pith followed by a long pine and grapefruit pith finish. The palate is light-bodied and then there is a very long zingy finish. Overall, this is a thirst quenching beer, slightly on the astringent side for my own taste, but could certainly have 2 or 3.

50cl bottle. It pours a light lemon colour with steady bubbles and excellent head. The nose is powerful but tight and delineated with pine and grapefruit pith. There is more pine on the taste and grapefruit on the finish. The palate is fairly big in structure and texture for the style and there is a very refreshing finish. Overall, a lovely beer of which I would drink several.

Dark brown ale with red hue and nice head. The nose has faint pine and grapefruit. The taste is faint but bitter grapefruit and pine comes through again. The palate does not have enough body to balance the very bitter finish. Overall, I’m not excited about this, it’s confusing. A pale ale disguised in a dark ale.

Pours a translucent, golden colour with a hint of green. Quite carbonated and a good head. The nose is hard to define but I think it’s hay, though there are also notes of nuts and dried green herbs. The taste is more specifically hay. The palate is rich tasting for this style but still very refreshing. Good beer.

Golden ale with slight haze. Some head. Smells like American hops - maybe citra. Pine and grapefruit nose. Bitter and long-lasting finish. Structure and texture as expected zingy finish.

Cask handpull at Flower Pot Maidstone. Clear pale brown colour. Thin bubbly white head. Very good bitter with excellent hops as you expect from this brewery. One of the best in Scotland no doubt. Some toffee and green pepper hop on aroma. Touch of earthyness on the hops. Yes earthy and some acidity on finish. Really quite bitter and assertive on the finish. Good though

More grapefruity on the nose this time. The palate is lovely and rich in the beginning and middle and just the perfect refreshing bitterness. What was I thinking! Original Rating 16/03/11 = 5+3+6+4+11=2.9 50cl bottle. Pours amber with a good head. The nose has gentle pine aromas. The taste is grapefruit against a background of sweet maltiness. The palate is medium-bodied with a creamy texture and a sharp refreshing finish. Overall this is an enjoyable balanced beer.

Cask at the Wenlock Arms, London on 13th February 2011. Pale gold with thin white vanishing head. Lemon citric aroma, touch of ginger. Vibrant kick of grassy hoppiness with late bitter flash; citric aftertaste with floral notes. Light mouthfeel.
