Description
The "Grain d'orge" brewery is a family brewery that was founded in 2002 by Benoît and Viviane Johnen. It is located in the village of Hombourg, at the limit of the 3 borders. The production of the brewery has increased year by year since its creation to reach in 2016, 4000Hl of beers.

Its main beers are Brice, Joup, Canaille, Grelotte, The Pom, Triple, Double and Pure d'Aubel. To this are added others, so-called beers on contract. They are tailor-made for small debits or special events.

The combination of ingredients and natural spices makes Grain d'orge beers unique and the layout of a spacious brewing room respecting the standards imposed by the FASFC guarantees their quality. In addition, a banquet hall has been fitted upstairs. This is available for rent but also serves to welcome groups who visit the brewery in order to end pleasantly with a tasting.

(33cl bottle, courtesy of DerDoppelbock) Cloudy, light brown coloured hue with loads of particles and a medium-sized foamy white head. Yeasty and sweet dark malty nose with a moderate fruity touch (apples, pears) and strong spicy notes. Sweet flavour, quite slim bodied according to its abv, fairly soft on carbon. Slightly toasted malty and fruity taste; yeasty, sweet and slightly bitter finish with quite rounded not too strong spicy notes. Definitely not the one I was waiting for.

(33cl bottle, courtesy of DerDoppelbock) Hazy, yellow coloured hue with loads of micro floaties and a mid-sized, non-persistent foamy white head. Sweet and slightly gainy malty, strong lemon-fruity nose with ethereal spice. Sweet flavour, soft grainy, citrus-fruity and spicy taste, medium bodied with a moderate carbonation; almost dry but malt-accented, slightly fruity finish. Okay but not very exciting.

(33cl bottle, courtesy of DerDoppelbock) Hazy, ruby colour with a big and slowly lacing, light-beige foamy head. A bit sugary sweet malty nose, slightly toasty with coriander spice and a touch of flowery and piney hops. Sweet flavour, medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Moderately yeasty, toast-malty and spicy taste with a good dash of hops; dry-ish spicy and slightly bitter finish.

Huge, very fine & dense just off-white head, fed by very lively carbonated shiny golden beer. Fine citrussy & flowery, as well as slightly spicy nose. Some chalk, milk-ripe grain. As flour ground from some delicate exotic grain. Quite dry, woody taste with a hint of bitterness (that is both spicy & hoppy), and still some retronasal citrus. Very neutral main taste, however. Dry, dry, but I need some flavour. Medium bodied, alcohol mainly hidden. I would have thought more than just the aroma would have been livened up by the elderflower. Drinks quite well away, on the other hand.

Bottle at Kent BF. Ruby, thin beige head. Slightly sweet malt aroma. Lovely berry fruits. I obviously liked it but it was towards the end of my third day at the festival my verbiage had dried up.

Bottle, 6.5%. Vinous, dried fruit aroma. Golden colour with very tiny floaties and a stable white head. The flavour is nicely fruity and malty. Good alcohol level and a little breadiness to balance. Hint of yeast in the finish. Very nice.
