Description
Working with its home orchard and some of the most talented orchardists in its environs, Little Pomona crafts ciders and perries and other fermented beverages that speak of the land, that taste of the harvest, that illustrate the wonderful cidermaking heritage the region is built on, and that look to the future.
First launched onto the market in 2017, Susanna and James Forbes' story started a few years earlier, when they found their dream orchard in Thornbury, North Herefordshire: 120 trees with four classic cider apple varieties. Inspired by the tastes and vision of notable producers, their quest was to work with the best possible fruit using natural methods to fashion ciders and perries with true flavours. Ciders with the character and structure to match with food. Ciders to enjoy, to share and to celebrate with.
Little Pomona was the first to create dry, keg-conditioned cider on a commercial basis, and its Root & Branch instantly won fans. The future will see more dry kegged ciders alongside a fascinating barrel fermentation and maturation programme.
Aided and abetted since the 2019 harvest by talented Canadian, Blair Côté, the team continues to adopt a progressive and experimental approach to the fermentation of fruit.
Thrilled to be named the 2019 Cider Producer of the Year by the Hereford Times, always the vision has been to share this journey, and today Little Pomona embarks on a fresh chapter as its opens its new Cider House, complete with Tasting Room.

750ml bottle from Good Spirits, Glasgow. Opened with a loud pop. Golden colour, large foamy white head that quickly dissipates away and aroma of tangy apple, caramel, light funk. Taste is juicy, apple, with some tartness, woody, funk, drying tannin and a zingy citrusy acidic note. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, drying citric finish. Nicely drinkable.

Bottle picked up from Hereford Beer House, Hereford and consumed at Campingplätz Felbermühle which is between Bad Gögging and a bigger town (we're on the Donau/ Danube). Pours warm gold with just a smattering of stray bubbles. Tart, dry and fuzzy, the cask ageing softens this nicely but its really zappy. Good.

75cl bottle from Pilango, I think. Pours unclear orange, bubble off-white topping. Good fleshy, raw, skin-like fruit aromatics. Taste follows on, not as bone-dry as standard French cremant, but retaining some good full fruity flavours, some nice bittersharp flavours, fleshy apple skin, distant funk. Good stuff.

Bottle picked up from Hereford Beer House and consumed at home Attenkirchen, Monday 10th June 2019, sat in the garden listening to Slowdive. Pours warm yellow, there is a very slight cloudiness but really almost clear. It's still, its dry and yet gives a little sweetness, some tang not unlike a not quite ripe plum. Tannic, furry on roof of mouth, it's ok but not quite living up to the rather floral description on the tasting notes.

375ml bottle, takeout from Kilder. Pours clear gold, aroma has wild nettley herbal funk. Taste is light bodied, nettley, wild, herbal with lightly cheesy, butterscotch bourbon traces, lasting tannic grip on the finish. Thin watery, drying body. Rough, natural farmhouse cider.

Bottle shared by dirty D Bag. It pours clear rich gold with no head. The aroma is earthy, oak, apple skin, light vanilla, pear and apple pie. The taste is firmly dry, quite soft, muted, straw, grape skin, oak, tannin and straw with a drying finish. Medium body and flat. Muted and a bit wishy washy.
