Description
Working with its home orchard and some of the most talented orchardists in its environs, Little Pomona crafts ciders and perries and other fermented beverages that speak of the land, that taste of the harvest, that illustrate the wonderful cidermaking heritage the region is built on, and that look to the future.

First launched onto the market in 2017, Susanna and James Forbes' story started a few years earlier, when they found their dream orchard in Thornbury, North Herefordshire: 120 trees with four classic cider apple varieties. Inspired by the tastes and vision of notable producers, their quest was to work with the best possible fruit using natural methods to fashion ciders and perries with true flavours. Ciders with the character and structure to match with food. Ciders to enjoy, to share and to celebrate with.

Little Pomona was the first to create dry, keg-conditioned cider on a commercial basis, and its Root & Branch instantly won fans. The future will see more dry kegged ciders alongside a fascinating barrel fermentation and maturation programme.

Aided and abetted since the 2019 harvest by talented Canadian, Blair Côté, the team continues to adopt a progressive and experimental approach to the fermentation of fruit.

Thrilled to be named the 2019 Cider Producer of the Year by the Hereford Times, always the vision has been to share this journey, and today Little Pomona embarks on a fresh chapter as its opens its new Cider House, complete with Tasting Room.

Nestling between the apples and the hops on Brook House Farm, once travel restrictions lift, come and visit for your own Little Pomona experience. And join the Little Pomona Club for exclusive offers on special releases and a chance to join us for harvest.

75cl bottle. Appearance - golden with a thin but attractive head. Very much like Champagne or Cremant with the steady bubbles. Nose - fresh but generously fruity apples. Red apple skins. Taste - dry apple skins and wood. Dry, sour apples. Palate - light bodied, dry and sour middle and finish. Good complexity. Overall - scrumpy from different vintages, plus cremant level of bubbles. It's good.

750ml bottle. Sparkling, orangey gold colour, short-lived fizzy white foam head and aroma of tangy apple, caramel hints. Taste is woody oaky juicy apple, vanilla, caramel, with tangy, funky notes and drying tannins. Medium bodied, spritzy carbonation, dry tangy oaky tannic finish. Very drinkable.

We're suddenly drinking cider! And a great one as well. Lots of apple, very dry, close to champagne (but apple). Woody. Pity about the extreme carbonation, would be amazing otherwise. Pairs well with the fantastic turning bitches for dessert.

Bottle consumed at home, Attenkirchen, with the Ratebeer Tasting Crew. Saturday 21st September 2019. The barrel ageing softens this a little (on the nose). However it translates into the mouth as a rather uninspiring cider, the bourbon ageing does little, the fruitiness is ok, it is a flat, drab cider.

Clear golden. Aroma is apple dry peel a bit tannic. Taste is very dry with a hint of raisins and tannins. Quite sour as well. Phew. Hard one but not so pleasant.

Bottle, golden amber, no head. Caramel candy apple nose. Flavor is dry & lightly sour, doesn't deliver on the sweetness promise of the aroma. The barrel comes through with oaky notes but also some tannic astringency.

Bottle. Golden. Wood vanilla and apple, super dry, apple skin tart, tastes sweeter than it is. Lightly boozy, green apple and almond retronasal.
