Description
The Bruery® is a boutique craft brewery based in Orange County, CA, specializing in experimental and barrel-aged beers since 2008. Founded as a small, friend & family run business, The Bruery takes it’s unique moniker from founder Patrick Rue’s family surname.
Patrick picked up homebrewing as a hobby, later to become an obsession, as a distraction to the banality of law school. Soon he was winning numerous awards for his beers and driving his wife, Rachel, mad with the messes that he would leave on the kitchen stove. Upon finishing school, he took it upon himself to draw up a business plan rather than study for the California Bar exam – a risky endeavor that shows through still today in the creative, genre-tilting beers that The Bruery prides itself on.
The Bruery is founded on the excitement that Patrick felt in those first years of homebrewing and we continue to strive for that same passion in every aspect of our business today. We never stop challenging ourselves to develop distinctive & imaginative beers, constantly pursuing improvement in all that we do. We brew dozens of original beers each year with our list of ingredients and inspirations growing perpetually. Our collection of oak barrels has also become a primary element of our brewery. Nearly half of our beer is aged in wine or spirit barrels bringing forth flavors reminiscent of the Belgian countryside or classic American distillers.

Very hoppy is right! On tap at the Bruery. Pours with a small, white head and a hazy orange body. Aroma is a hop bomb of a belgian, with lots of (what smell like, but are not) c-hops, citrus and pine dominate. It is all hops, hops, hops on the aroma with a bit of belgian yeast. Taste is pungent and sticky hops with a belgian yeast spiceyness in the background. A belgian DIPA! Dryish mouthfeel with lively carbonation.

Sent in a picture to be uploaded. Bottle: Pours with hardly any head. What comes up is slow rising and a bit foamy and reverts to a ring quickly. Body is a deep ruby. Aroma of pumpkin pie spice and some maple syrup. Taste is thick and spiced with pumpkin (or yams), cinnamon, allspice and generaly sweet. This is a solid competitor to Pumpking (although not as sweet or well rounded). Syrupy mouthfeel, Light carbonation. 3.7: 737415
RERATE: this stuff on tap is awesome (and pretty amazing on cask too)! Pours with a full, light brown head and a hazy deep auburn body. Nose is increadable. Straight pumpkin pie with some alcohol and a slight belgian character. Easily a competetor of Pumpking!. More carbonation than the bottle, great fresh pumpkin spice belgian taste. Creamy mouth! Great! 3.9: 848415

Bottle. Sent in a picture to be uploaded. Pours with a huge, thick, white head and a hazy deep gold body. Great lacing and retention. Aroma is exotic fruits and dried fruits, a sort of herbal sweet basil note, and a touch of brett. Taste is on the sweet side with a bit of spiceyness. The Thai basil (which tastes very different to the Euro-American basil) ands a nice exotic fruity element that balances the sweetness perfectly. Dry and lively mouthfeel with a nice alcohol presence. A truely great beer.

On tap. Interesting dark beer. Pours with a nearly black body, and a fluffy light brown head that leaves just a thin cover after a few minutes. Aroma of coriander, chamomile, and roasted malts. Taste is very yeasty with coriander, orange peel and toasted malts. Dryish and slightly fizzy.

Bottle. Amber beer with a big whitish head. Nice citrus, spice, and wheat aroma. Spice, wheat/hay/malt flavor with yeast and light citrus. Medium body. Refreshing and easy to drink. Spice, wheat, malt, and light orange linger. Nice light tartness lingers.

Bottle from Hi-Time. Gushing, huge tan head over very dark brown liquid. Aromas of spice and medium dark fruit plus citrus. Medium body with creamy carbonation. It’s darker roasted malt, darkish fruit, spice, and still a hint of citrus. Seems like a touch of coffee. Rather smooth. Tasty finish. Highly recommended.

Bottle from Hi-Time. A gusher. Poured a hazy amber/gold color with dark floaters. The head was white and furious. The aroma is floral, citrus, and an underlying bready malt. Body is medium, carbonation is fizzy/frothy. The flavor seems to start with ginger. There’s coriander/citrus, and some malt. The florality is nearly perfumery. The finish leaves a strong presence which suggests ginger to me, but it’s not hot. Lavender? Who eats lavendar? Great ale though.

Copper colour with light haze. High phenol and alcohol quotient, along with spice, glue. Dry spicy flavour with decent balance. A bit phenolic. Doesn’t take me much of anywhere special.

Bottle. #1820 (maybe) Amber beer with no real head. Spicy, yeasty, slight estery aroma. Sweet orange, malt and spice flavor with a nice earthy yeastiness. Medium body. Sweet esters and malt linger with a bit of alcohol wamring. Bit strong. If the alcohol and extra malt was taken away it’s be in between Duvel and Inferno with a more balanced spice/ester combination.
