This 33 cl bottle was picked up from Smaakhuis just less than a year ago. There have been two previous beers in the series, Roaring Forties and Fabulous Fifties. I sampled both of those in early 2023 and liked them considerably. Now is the time to taste the last of the group that I am familiar with. I placed a Trappistes Rochefort glass in front of me and took the pour. The body is a rich, dark mahogany with amber highlights at the edges. There is no discernible head but I do see a steady stream of very fine bubbles arising from the center of the glass. I could smell the beer from a distance and it is good. Chocolate, some vinous quality, yeast and grain. Finally I lift the glass for a drink. Damn, it is fine, likely the best of the three. Chocolate malt, alfalfa, ripe berries, dark bread, a hard candy sweetness, wood and purple plums. Curiously I get a bit of burn as the brew goes down, a surprise to me for a quad. A chewy beer, quite dense. Nogne O continues their tradition of truly fine quadrupels, I hope there is another in this series.
