Tap at TDM 1874 tap-takeover @ Wurst Haus. Nice golden, poured to the brink, so not really much foam or carbonation. Which is fitting for the style. Malty nose, just a hint of herbal hops. Light caramel. Taste is caramelly, not sweet but dry, overall feeling quite British.

very very pale amber brown color. Very austere, woody, earthy, with focus really around the malt backbone. The hops mingle perfectly to give just the right amount of bitterness but subtle. High quaffable. Very English. Would like to try on hand pump and much warmer but superb take on the style to the level you rarely see outside the Uk

golden amber color. In summary what sculpin used to be. Piney citrusy, full body punchy hoppy. Sculpin wishes it could be this now. Wow. super balanced. Excellent

deep chestnut color. Flat had. Slightly sweet malty nose with chocolate and dark fruit. Caramel pudding, plums, bread and chocolate malty mouth. Wow. Fantastic. Slightly warming finish. A true winter warmer. Super well put together. Low carbonation. Wow. One of the best old ales I’ve had in awhile. Nailed the style perfectly. Wow. So fantastic. Lingering plum and chocolate finish. Fuck. Wow. The review above was for the 2018 ver. 2019 walks s all over 2018 (3.9). The plum character is so deep and dank it’s like I am having a liquid version of the fruit with the pit in my mouth without much acidity. I’ve never had plum at this level. This is fuckin insane. To me this is the new benchmark for the style. Of course the chocolate is there too but god damn this is heaven.

Tap @ iBREW Shinbashi. Pours clear yellow golden. Looks crisp, with some foam and leaves long-lasting lacings. Nose is malty sweetish, fruity and covered with fresh hop character. Resiny pine. Taste is aggressively fresh and aggressively hoppy, quite a lot of bitterness and the linger turns a bit harsh. Body feels light and oily with resins. Really classical and well made West Coast IPA for me, nice break from all of this NEIPA craze.

Tap at iBREW Shinbashi. Dark brown pour, no real carbonation and no real head. Bready caramel nose, no sweetness though. Some rye spices? Taste has more caramel, recognisable booze kick and also lots of lighltly bitter rye spices. Dark fruits, plums and figs without accompanying aweetness. Dry. Pretty much exactly as I imagine how a well made old ale should be.

Tap at Takumiya. Spicy nose, tobacco, caramel, raisins. Spicy hops and dried fruits in the flavor, blackstrap molasses comes through as does the rich British malt with brown sugar. Malt and rich but not overly sweet with a dry, spicy, nicely hopped finish. Great.

Tap at Takanoya shared by KL. Lovely hoppy aroma featuring prickly pear and papaya. Clean flavored medium bodied IPA that hits the spot. It didn't stand out but was undoubtedly solid and highly unlikely to disappoint. Nailed it.

Score! Lucky me stumbling on this on tap in Kansai (at Takanoya to be exact). Orange-gold in color with a softly spicy aroma. Medium bodied and dry with a hefty dose of allspice and some cinnamon with just hints of nutmeg. I'd prefer a more velvety smooth mouthfeel but this is a solid example of the style.
