Description
Since 1975, Boon Brewery has been owned and run by Frank Boon, one of the pioneers of the authentic lambic and gueuze revival. But the first signs of the brewery date back to 1680, as a farm-brewery and distillery in the village of Lembeek. In 1860 Louis Paul bought the brewery to brew only lambic and faro. From 1875, he began bottling gueuze lambic. In 1898, Pierre Troch bought the brewery. But after the economic crisis of 1927, it came into the hands of Joseph De Vits. His son, Rene is renowned for the production of soft and fine gueuze lambic. As Rene De Vits had no children, he sold the brewery to Frank Boon.

375mL bottle, pours a clear copper with a small white head. Aroma has a nice barnyard funk character, with leathery notes, and some tangy wine notes. Flavour is nicely complex, with a nice barnyard funk character, leathery notes, champagne-like effervescence, and some hay. Finishes bitter, funky, and champagne-like. Why 10%? It works but seems unnecessarily boozy.

0,375l bottle at home. Amber clear color, small white head. smells funky, earthy, grassy, oak, peppery. Very nice smell. full body, soft carbonation. tastes funky, oak, earthy, peppery, walnuts. finishes rather balanced with a light sourness and light boozy notes with notes of funk, walnuts and pepper. Good one, rather too much body. But good to very good none the less

On tap at One Pint Pub, pours a cloudy, opaque dark amber orange with a large beige head. Aroma has dry, tart dark fruits, moderate musty brett, and bready malt. Flavour has plenty of musty brett, bready malt, and a touch of red fruits. Dry, musty, murky, not too complex or well-expressed. Alright.

Backlog June 2009. Mahogany body under a thin beige head. Rather mild in aroma, caramel and some acidity. Taste is sweet and sour with ripe fruit and mild funk. Balanced in taste, fine body and decent aftertaste. Not outstanding in any way, but still a very nice made Faro.
