Description
Waterloo Beer is brewed with care in the Mont-Saint-Jean farm, the famous 'English Hospital' of the Battle of Waterloo. More than ever, this high-quality beer is a symbol of authenticity, craftsmanship and courage. In 1815, during the famous conflict, the troops were supplied with high-fermented beer that gave them strength and courage to face each other. Two centuries later, Anthony Martin is proud to revisit this moment in history by reviving the local beer quality, prepared strictly according to the original recipe: Waterloo – beer of bravery!

Bottle, drink by 2009, so it’s aged. Big honey malt nose, salts, somewhat syrupy. Aged tripel aroma… Cloudy blonde with low lace. Spicy flavor with some citrus and stewed peaches and melon, honey, minerals, a bit of licorice, but I only noticed after reading that it was included. OK. Need to have it fresh to compare.

Nose of tangy pineapple chunks. Taste has lemon pith. The palate is very well balanced. Exact same rating as last time. Original rating 7/3/7/4/14 = 3.5 33cl bottle, Pours a hazy golden colour with lots of bubbles and a good head. The nose is distinctly orangey with some honey and a herby background note. The taste is still of citrus, somewhere between orange and lemon. The palate is medium to big in structure, the texture is creamy and there is a zingy finish. Overall, this is a good example of a blonde tripel.

33cl bottle. Pours an opaque/prune colour with steady gentle bubbles and a good creamy head. The nose has apples and perhaps raisins or prunes. The taste is of more prunes, then toffee which seems to melt into a lemon sorbet finsh. The palate has a big structure, a creamy texture and a fairly fresh finish relative to the body. Overall, this is a rich but balanced beer.

Big 750ml bottle with a cork and a wire cradle. Shared with Finn and the ladies at 2BE. Unclear, golden body. Diminishing white head. Lightly spiced fruits to the nose. Spicy and fruity to the taste buds. Very smooth. Easy to quaff. Partial refreshing (Brugge, 04.05.2011).

(Bottle, Monk’s Café Wallingatan, Stockholm) Dark brown colour with lasting, beige head. Malty nose with notes of caramel, dried fruit, raisins, dark bread and brown sugar. Malty, fruity taste with dried fruit, raisins, figs, dark bread and spices (cinnamon, nutmeg). More than medium body, with balanced sweetness and a moderate, spicy bitterness. Solid, well made and tasty abbey dubbel.

Golden straw colour, slight haze. White head. Sweet malty tripel aroma, yeast, aromatic hops, notes of fruit. Sweet malty, yeasty flavour, apricot, some pilsner characteristics. Soft carbonation. Well made, balanced, though nothing really extraordinary. Good for diner imho as it leaves space to the flavours of the food served. (from 33cL bottle -dikbuikje-)

Bottled 330ml. -from Brasserie Henry, Budapest.
Deep amber red coloured, small to medium sized off-white head that went away fast, mild touch of alcohol in rather neutral nose. Sweet malty, caramel and dark fruits with mild spicy and quite alcoholic finish.

330 ml stubby bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 7.5%. Very pale straw coloured beer, huge white head. Nice aroma of grassy and herbal hops (Saaz and Spalt), also some mildly spicy notes. Refreshing flavour, light bodied for its strength, some sweetness but not too much. Some herbal notes, the hops are noticeable. Easy drinking.

Pours dark copper with a stupidly huge, growing tan head.Rich spicy aroma with lots of golden syrup and brown sugar. Incredibly sweet. Noticeable cloves and cinnamon play a large part too.Similarly sweet flavours, the golden syrup and brown sugar really dominate. Some hot alcohol follows through making for quite a cloying beer.Too much carbonation.
