Stylish blend of sweet, creamy honey and soft, gentle maltiness. Light copper colour. Not very refreshing, and as it warms it becomes kind of heavy and the rich English malts begin to clash with the cloying honey character.

Dark brown. Soft maltiness, slightly roasrt, nice strong flavours of dark chocolate. Very tasty!

I guess this one got aliased backwards. D'oh! Anyway, I gave up on this stuff years ago but decided to re-visit it, just for Gusler. It starts off right - dark chestnut colour, richly malty aroma with peat, treacle, plums....but then it falls apart. The palate is overly sweet, one-dimensional, clearly too much corn used in this one, and then it gets watery. Watery palates and unbalanced sugariness just don't work for me. Sorry, Gus, it's just not for me.

Chestnut brown. Nicely, malty, toffee and sugar flavour, sweetish. Slightly bitter finish. Overall a good winter beer.

This was the first (and a rare) instance in which my notes directly corresponded with Jackson's: light body, very smooth, touch oily, drying in the finish. I like it, but it's not a knockout.

Creamy head; slightly hazy; chewy, earthy nose. A fairly candyish, cloying sweetness really detracted from everything else that this beer was trying to accomplish.
