Bottle bought from Hasegawa. Dark brown colour with small golden head. Aroma is vanilla, cream, roasty malt, bit of chocolate, sweetness. Everything you would expect really. Taste is nice, lots of vanilla and cream again, touch of cherry, some dryness at the end. Quite slight in the mouth for a stout, but I won't hold it against it. Maybe makes it more drinkable. Sweet vanilla and chocolate finish. Not overly sweet, and pretty damn good.

Tap at the Watering Hole. Clear golden colour, big white creamy head. Aroma is floral, perfumey. Very much so. Hint of graininess in the background. Taste is nice, quite fruity, and floral again. Tastes pink. Surely psychological. Further down is slightly wheaty. Strawberry and bit citrus, but mainly floral sweetness. Was nice enough, but I think a small glass is enough.

Tap at Craft Beer Market Toranomon. Had to drink this quickly as it took a while to come and we were about to leave. Maybe where the night started to go a bit off-track for me! Golden coloured, small head. Aroma is booze, apples, in fact apple friitters, marzipan. Taste surprisingly easy drinking, apple again, not a hint of booze in the taste. Bit of sweetness. Smooth.

Bottle from Tokyu Food Show a couple of months ago. First of all, I should say that a chocolate orange is one of my favourite chocolate things, so I would expect that I would like this. Aroma is lots of orange and chocolate, and quite like a chocolate orange. Chocolate is quite bitter though. Taste is similar, lots of chocolate and orange again, nice bitterness too. Finish is a bit more creamy, touch of vanilla, but there is a bit of bitterness that hangs around too. Really different. Very smooth and not as thin as people seem to have said. Maybe they have beefed it up a bit in recent years. I really like this, although I appreciate that it could be a bit sickly. Definitely enough in there to keep it interesting.

Bottle from Izuya. Dark amber colour with big fluffy off-white head. Aroma is very malty, maybe even a little bit spicy, ginger perhaps. Biscuits, bit of something floral. Taste is good. Once again, lots of malt, finish has touch of bitterness and bit of a spike. Fruity too, cherry or raspberry hidden in there somewhere and lots of brown bread. Very drinkable.

Bottle bought at Tokyu Food Show around Valentines Day. Dark brown colour with thick golden bubbly head. Aroma is roasty malt and not as much chocolate as I expected. Taste is similar. Nice burnt malty taste at the start. Just a murmur of chocolate again. Finish is burnt, spicy and lingering. Bit of bitterness too. Pretty nice and surprisingly not so much chocolate. Maybe just a touch left behind with the burnt and spicy finish. Will definitely drink again. Satisfyingly different from a lot of imperial stouts.

Bottle at home. Golden colour with big white bubbly head. Aroma is slightly citrus, bit floury, biscuits too. Taste is initially quite sweet and citrussy, but few sips afterwards it becomes much more grainy, with a decent bitter finish. Still lots of fruit though. Slight bubblegum flavour in there too. Quite interesting.

Tap at the Sankt Gallen beer garden at Tokyu Plaza, Omotesando. Dark brown black colour with golden creamy head. Aroma is predominately coffee but with a bit of sweet vanilla creaminess. Taste is similar but more vanilla than coffee. Coffee in the background. Quite smoky and roasty. Bit of chocolate and caramel too. I quite like these sankt gallen sweet beers. Quite full bodied but still easy to drink. Nice.

Tap at the Sankt Gallen beer garden at Tokyu Plaza, Omotesando. Golden colour, white head. Aroma is wheaty, grainy, bit of lemon, grassy hops. Taste is nice enough, hoppy bitterness, grainy finish. Bit of other fruitiness later on. Good thirst quencher. Nice enough.
