29/V/18 - 33cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker), shared @ home - BBE: 2018 (2018-732)

Pretty clear blond beer, small irregular big bubbled white head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: fruity, yeast, spicy, touch, some coriander, bit funky, brett touch, apple skin. MF: lively carbon, medium to light body. Taste: alcohol, bit sourish, very spicy and dusty, very yeasty, some alcohol, green apples. Aftertaste: some tannins, pretty dry, bit sourish, dry cider, apple skin, little funky, some citrus, spicy touch, bitter, some tannins. Not bad, not exciting either. Luckily not a gusher. Probably tasted it fresh enough for it not to gush yet. :p

33cl bottle in Beers Yesterdays World, Brugge, on 16th May 2018. Hazy body, old gold in colour, the head a large off-white foaming crown. The nose had a malty base with some spicy fruits esters as back up, some yeast in there too. Sweeter than the aroma suggests, this is a decent enough beer even if the alcohol takes over mid-sip.

The original embodiment of this beer, now brewed by Toëtelèr in two different variants but originally this was the beer the way this blueberry farm in Limburg commissioned it from Gaverhopke. Thanks to tderoeck for sharing. Gusher apparently – unsurprisingly, coming from Gaverhopke… Thick and foamy but rather loose, lacing, somewhat dirty pinkish-tinged off-white head over a hazy orange blonde beer with salmon pinkish tinge. Aroma already a bit oxidized, in an unpleasant, ‘rusty’ kind of way but not completely overpowering yet; sugared forest fruit jam and blueberry lemonade, white bread, cooked sweet cherry tomatoes, white sugar, touch of lemon juice. Red apple- and strawberry-like notes in the onset, blueberry (juice) of course but seemingly less so than in the current versions, still providing sourish edges around a primarily sugary sweet flavour, made lighter by fizzy carb and a light, supple mouthfeel. Bit sticky in the end but not in very artificial or candy-like way, the sourness providing some balance and the berry juice flavour in general feeling relatively genuine, penetrating a simple, ‘white bready’ maltiness. Retronasal oxidation and lingering blueberry juice sweet-and-light-sourishness in the finish, hardly any noticeable hop bitterness. Not as bad as feared, but the gushing, thinner berry juice profile and obvious oxidation made this less pleasant than what I remember from the current Toëtelèr versions so in that sense this commissioner made a good choice to change brewer.

Bottle split at CBC Gilesborn, thanks to Leighton, 25/04/18. Light hazed on an amber pour with an off white head. Nose is sweet malts, tangy stewed fruits, nutty, caramel. Taste comprises cardboard, soured fruits, boozey notes, toffee, bitter sweet bite. Medium plus in body, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a boozey edge. Not great.

10/V/18 - 33cl bottle from the basement, shared with Alengrin @ Belgian ticks tasting (home) - BB: X/2015 (2018-688)

GUSHER ALERT!

Somehow I never felt like tasting this one, and it kept sitting and sitting in my stock until this day. As soon as I opened, I remembered again why I never felt like it. Another huge gusher from Gaverhopke exploded all over my kitchen sink (duh, no risks). A clear rust brown to reddish beer with a small creamy white head, little stable, bit adhesive, leaving some lacing in the glass. Aroma: sweetish, lots of blueberry jam, that's something all right... rather dirty and sourish, oxidized as well. MF: very lively carbon, medium to light body. Taste: lots of blueberries, little bitter, oxidized, bit sourish. Aftertaste: fruity, bit oxidized again, blueberries, bit sweet, more blueberry jam. Actually not even that bad, and I would've thought it was gonna taste completely infected, but maybe they just used way too much bottling sugar?

$5.79 bottle, Wine Warehouse. Pours orange with a giant yellowish head. Aroma is floral, blasted shit resin, stale hops. Flavor is resin, licorice, floral hops, yeast, burnt caramel, sweet black tea. I knew by the nose I wasn't going to like this. Finishes with a lingering burnt sugar flavor.

33cl bottle from Abeervinum, Rimini, Italy. Expired. Pours unattractive dark brown, with some elements in suspension and practically no foam. Aroma is malty, woody. Body is slightly dense with moderate carbonation. Taste is moderately sweet, same for bitterness, and a nice sour from ageing. Finish is relatively long and pleasant.
