Clear dark chestnut brown beer, big solid creamy beige head, pretty stable, adhesive, leaving some lacing in the glass. Aroma: sweet, overripe banana, yeasty, dried fruits, some caramel, alcohol, more banana. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: pretty sweet start, lots of banana, bit sugary, some chocolate, alcohol touch, caramel, yeast. Aftertaste: unpleasant bitterness, lots of banana, alcohol, bit sugary, hoppy touch, some chocolate, bit medicinal. More like a Quadruppel than a Barley Wine, pretty sure they added sugar and the banana yeast esters ain't helping much either...

Steini bottle from De Hopduvel in Ghent. Very strong gusher - as always with Gaverhopke, sad to say: about 1/4 of the bottle flooded my girlfriend's kitchen table. Sigh... Very coarse, initially towering high 'gusher' head, loose and coarse and quickly settling into a medium thick, irregularly moussy, egg-white, lacing head over a misty peach blonde beer with ochre-ish hue and lots of dead yeast dots throughout. Aroma immediately reveals age, with a chicken soup- and rust-like oxidation effect, lying over impressions of honey, the classic band aid off-flavour, peach, dough, pineapple, banana, field flowers, hay, candy apple, breakfast cereals, coriander, pear juice, ripe gooseberries. Sweet, estery onset, pineapple and ripe pear flavours, some banana, with a gooseberry-like sourish undertone (infection, perhaps?); medium carbo, supple and bit glueish mouthfeel. Bready malt sweetness, slick, with honeyish residual sweetness on top; ends evidently yeasty, bready, bit starchy, with orange peel- and banana-like notes, ongoing sweetness (though not overly cloying) and floral hoppiness providing little bitterness, which would have been very welcome in what is otherwise a sweet Belgian tripel. Don't get the point of this beer - rather bland and cliché, too sweet, underhopped and too yeasty, with points off for the fierce gushing!

33 cl bottle. Pours golden yellow. Small white head. Aroma is spiced, soapy and herbal. Soapy. Sweet and toasted malt. Mild herbal. Dry, bitter and herbal finish.

Bottle from Deconinck, Vichte; Clear orange colour, white foam. GUSHER!!! Aroma of citrus, juniper, cloves.Taste is banana, yeasty with spices (cloves, juniper). Light sweet. Bit unbalanced. Ok, nothing special.

Bittersweet Symphony : cette double IPA porte très bien son nom, construite à la fois sur une amertume saillante, herbacée et résineuse, et sur une base douce et fruités (pomme, poire, pêche). En verre nous sommes sur un blond abricot limite de l'ambré (EBC aux alentours de 28) surmonté d'une mousse blanc crème aérée de 2 cm d'épaisseur. Au nez l'alliance entre arômes fruités (pomme, poire, pêche) et amertume herbacée se fait directement ressentir (le côté résineux n'est pas réellement présent à ce stade). L'attaque donne directement l'avantage à l'amertume, sur le résineux par rapport aux arômes plus doux de fruit. Les deux composantes s'assemblent cependant de belle manière. LA deuxième bouche monte sur l'amertume, celle-ci devenant saillante avec un alcool se faisant davantage ressentir (ce dernier faisant plus que ses 7,8 % Abv). L'arrière est particulièrement bien équilibré sur une bonne ampleur. La troisième bouche est quant à elle plus douce avec un fruit reprenant un peu de place. Le final, long est alors sur une amertume saillante, à son maximum d'intensité, à la fois herbacée et sur le résineux. Très appréciable.

Bottle at Nuetnigenough. Almost black with a tan head. Sweetish with some roasted malt, chocolate and dark fruit. The body was on the light side.
