Description
For years we brewed beers in our basement when we read an article in October 2010 about the Brouwland beer competition. We decided to risk our chances and sent our version of a Trappist beer, a dark beer, full malt, of 10%.In March 2011 we were informed that we were selected for the final. Beginning in April 2011 was ultimately the final. The seven finalist beers were tasted by beer connoisseurs, Zythologists Rijckers Anne and Yannick De Cocteau and some Belgian brew masters like Paul Arnott (Dubuisson), and Jean-Marie De Rock (Orval). The first beers were tasted and judged one for one, much was noted. Mutually there was not much talk together ,until they started our beer (the final seven beers were tasted in order of alcohol). All jurors began to talk to each other and two of them even gave us a thumbs up. Then, we knew it was good. After fifteen minutes of deliberations they announced the winner … Vliegend Paard Brouwers from Oedelem with their Préaris Quadrupel.

At Zythos 2017. Pours dark brown with a soft foam. Aroma is lightly boozy, wooden barrel, nuts, malts. Body is medium, very sweet, rather bitter and roasted, soft carbonation, sherry flavours. Okay, but not balanced.

23/IV/17 - 33cl bottle, shared @ post-ZBF train ride - BB: 14/XII/17 (2017-551) Thanks to Andy for getting me the last bottle from his fridge!
Little cloudy yellow beer, creamy white head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: floral, bit sweet, honey, bit fruity, citrus, minerals, yeast. MF: ok carbon, medium to light body. Taste: pretty salty start indeed, bit sourish, sea water, little earthy, not getting the smoked part from the fish, actually. Aftertaste: more salty, yeast, bit funky. Definitely very interesting brew, would've liked it a bit more sourish / lemony though.

23/IV/17 - 37.5cl bottle @ Zythos Bier Festival 2017 (Leuven) - BB: n/a (2017-487) Thanks to Ruben77 and kraddel for sharing today's beers!
Clear chestnut dark brown beer, small creamy beige head, pretty stable, non adhesive. Aroma: sweet, sugary, caramel, alcohol. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: very roasted start, alcohol, caramel, some vanilla, dried fruits, nice! Aftertaste: quite some alcohol, roasted, bit sweet and sugary, caramel, roasted. Not getting much sherry though, to be honest. I have more barrel flavours in the quadrupel series (Grand Cru).
