Description

[9/24/15] Draught at Arendsnest in Amsterdam. Deep orange-amber. Aroma of caramel, fruitiness, yeast. Sweet flavor with caramel, yeast, fruitiness, and a bitterish finish. Medium-bodied.

On tap at Arends Nest Amsterdam. Hazy amber colour lasting cream head. Woody malty aroma. Some pukey malt thing going on. That sweet Dutch malt thing I just don’t like. Vague hop. Some tangerine fruit. Everything I dislike about some Dutch beers in a glass. Even some lavender soap flavour. Eek. Not for me.

330ml bottle. Minimally clody, mahogany colour with ruby red glimmer and average, frothy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, beige head. Sweetish malty, smoky aroma, hints of tomato barbecue marinade, oak ashes, chocolate malty background, hints of dark chocolate, a touch of liquorice. Taste is chocolately malty with subtle sweetness, mild smoky, bitter hoppy overtones, some liquorice. Extremely nice.

330ml bottle from Ales by Mail. Pours amber with good off-white head. Aroma is caramel. Wasn’t terribly looking forward to a Dutch version of a bitter, but this is actually better than expected due to the nice mellow sweetness that comes into play; something that lacks in English bitters which tend to be horribly bland and malt-forward. Refreshing, drinkable end of work beer.
