Golden colour, firm white head. Aroma of hops, malts, spicy yeast. Bitter, light sweet flavour. Finish malts, hops, quite light.
Your average high alcohol tripel allright. Not bad though.

33cl bottle @ home. Slightly unclear orange color, small to medium sized off-white head. Smell malts, yeasty and overripe fruits. Taste malts, some fruits: plums, prume, apricot and some sweet-bitter finish. Low to medium, very fizzy carbo, low to medium body.

33cl bottle, light gusher. Dorée blanche, col blanc. Arôme d’ester et de banane note de levure le tout restant dans ce profile bien belge de triple. Profile doux sur un beau pétillant, esters houblonné avec un alcool réchauffant au palais et tjrs ce profile d’abbaye.

33cl bottle. Light gusher. Dorée claire, col blanc épais collant au verre. Arôme est houblonné, citronné, pointe d’agrumes et épices. En bouche, malt léger, houblonné et levure en pointe, garde ce profile pils sur une brève amertume en fin de bouche, fruité voire douce sucrée allant sur abricot. Fini conserve cette levure et une pointe d’épice rappelant la coriandre.

December 2008: from BA. This bottle is one of three (different beers) I have from this beer company. The problem is, the labels all claim the beers are brewed by someone else! This brown was brewed by Verhaeghe-Vichte, the Amber by Du Bocq and the Triple by Van Steenberge (that should be good). Anyway the brown 25cl bottle (5.4%) had just under a years life left when I broached it. Poured into a La Chouffe tulip. Good clear mahogany red/brown colour with a tan head that faded quickly to a collar and wisp. Sweet smell, which follows into the taste. Treacle and malts fill your nose, but there is a darker sour flavour in the mix too. Agreeable to my palat, the sweet and sour elements complimented each other very well. It appeared to me like a combination of an Old Brown, a Young Brown with a hint of a Flanders Red thrown in to give some umph. This was a lot better than I thought it would be after I read the label. I must wear my glasses when buying stuff!

Bottle: Clear, amber coloured, cellary balsamico nose sith sweet fruity caramel in the background; moderate sweet-sour flavour, pretty light bodied; sweet-sour finish, followed by a touch of hops in the aftertaste. O.K, but not earth-shaking…

Brown 25cl bottle brewed by ’Du Bocq’ for Vanuxeem-Ploegsteert. Plenty of life left, best before 22 Nov 2009, drank late April 2009. Poured into a Duvel Glass. Clear amber body, darkish off-white head, good retension and lots of bubbles rising through the beer, looked impressive. Aroma of yeasts, malts and apples. Bland and lifeless, a slight malty flavour, very disappointed compared to the smell and look, but I shouldn’t have been surprised, Du Bocq produce some fairly crap beers in my opinion. This is just another one of their pretend beers. One of the worst Belgian ambers I’ve ever had!

Bottle. Clear maroon color, small tan head. Aroma of sour cherries, citrus. Taste is more sour than sweet, with vinegar toward the finish.

Sep 2010: Brown 25cl bottle, slightly out of date (by 3 months). Poured into a Hoegaarden Grand cru stemmed tulip glass, without any sediment leaving the bottle. This is another one of those ’label beers’, no brewery, just contracted out with the name ’Ploegsteert’ as a front. This is the third in the set I’ve reviewed. Snow white bubbley head on top of a lagerlike golden, bright body. Very little aroma, even as the beer warmed. Mostly alcohol esters with maybe hints of Belgian yeasts if I sniff really hard. The taste seems to be more alcohol than anything else, a bit like those strong lagers that have no flavour but give you a huge headache. Not impressed, better than the Du Bocq brewed Queue De Charrue Amber, but not as good as the Queue De Charrue Brune, which is brewed by Verhaeghe.

Draft @ Delirium. Ambrée/cuivrée, col épais beige. Arôme aigre-doux léger laissant une effluve minime fruitée, malt caramel, sucré/grains. En bouche, le profile reste plus centré sur un sucre roux laissant un caramel doux prendre un peu le dessus. En parallèle avec un léger fruité aigre, le côté balsamique de cette ’veille brune’ est en retrait et je ne note aucune pas de présence de vieillissement en foudre de chêne. Reste une belle bière pour le style, facile dans son approche qui garde un profile aigre minime.
