Description

Bottle, 5.5%. Very malty aroma, slightly peppery and with a little bonbon. Clear, shiny amber colour. Almost no head. Thick mouthfeel. The flavour is malty with a fruity sweetness. Slightly spicy aftertaste with a little vegetable.

Bottle, 5.4%. Sour and sweet aroma, this is clearly an oud bruin. Sparkling, clear brown colour. Stable light brown head. The flavour is very acidic for the style, almost vinegary, which suits it very nicely. It has a little sweetness, but without cancelling out the acidity. I detect a slightly roasted flavour behind the acidity. This is what I feel an oud bruin should be.

Bottled. Dark amberish red colour, mediumsized beige head. Aroma is of vinegar, acid, glue and some dry fruit. Rubber, metal and fruits in the flavour, along with some hints of red wine.

Beautiful red-brown colour, clear; medium brownish head. Typical Verhaeghe nose; vinous, woody, and sweet - in a saccharing way (no Karl, I’m NOT saying saccharine is used, it tastes as if...) and dark candi sugar. And a faint acetic acid in the background. Pretty much the same in the taste: sweet-sour, vinous, wood, lactic and acetic acid and an overlying sweetness that has an artificial character. Retronasal it’s very good, however, like a true and ripened oud-bruin. Tittilating, some acid-burn, and some dry-out effect. Typical Verhaeghe mix of the best and off-tastes.

Very metallic-clear gold; very small near transparent head. Fresh malts and hops, a whiff of alcohol, brandy-like, caramel. Sweet taste, and a fruity, just-not-sourish taste, marzipan flavour, but not overly sweet. Bit burning mF, alcohol showing through the warmth. I’d not have guessed Van Steenberge blind - the thumbprint is very light here; Beer is rather neutral.

(Bottle 25 cl) Curiously, the "Brune" and "Blonde" versions of this beer are brewed by other breweries. Beautiful deep, amber color, unfiltered with yeast sediment and an agressive yellow-brown head. Very nice and quite pronounced aroma of hops, which also leaves some bitterness. 210804
