Description
Op zijn zeventiende vertrok Ramses Snoeij naar zijn vader in Amerika. Rond 1990 werd daar het eerste Ramses Bier gebrouwen in Oregon, aan de westkust van de Verenigde Staten. Na zijn terugkeer in Nederland koos hij in 2007 ervoor zijn brouwhobby commercieel aan te pakken. Zijn eerste commerciële brouwsel was Willem Bever dat in 2007 werd geïntroduceerd. De bieren van Ramses Bier werden aanvankelijk gebrouwen met behulp van de brouwfaciliteiten van Bierbrouwerij De 3 Horne in Kaatsheuvel. Hier werden brouwsels gebrouwen van 700-800 liter. De proefbrouwsels werden in Wagenberg gebrouwen en hadden een volume van 50-60 liter. In februari 2013 werd een eigen bedrijfsruimte opgeleverd met een nieuwe brouwinstallatie die een brouwcapaciteit van 1.500 liter heeft.

Bottle at home. Aroma of malt, liquorice, tea, berries, earthy notes, coffee, hint of roast, hops in the finish. Flavour is light sweet with an over moderate bitter finish. Body is medium. Curious beer, but I definitely liked it.

From tap at Jopen Proeflokaal Amsterdam. Aroma is coffee, roasted malt, some chocolate, dark/red fruity notes, hint of hops. Flavour is light sweet and moderate to medium bitter. Body is medium. Fruits are rather subtle, but there’s a fine coffee Stout beneath.

Bottle at home. Aroma is oak barrel, dark malt, liquorice, roasted almost burnt malt, hoppy notes, ash, bitter dark chocolate. Flavour is moderate to medium sweet with a roasty and hoppy bitter finish. Nicely dry with a medium body. Mostly oaky rather than whiskey... Very nice roasty oaky dark chocolate liquorice Porter.

From tap at 4e Noordelijk Lentebieren festival Leeuwarden. Aroma is a mix of nuts, walnuts, malt, light roast, hoppy, pine, light caramel. Flavour is moderate sweet and surprisingly bitter. Body is medium. Good bitter nutty Brown Ale!

From tap at Bierfestival Groningen 2016. Aroma is rye malt, zesty fruits, citrus, orange, very hoppy. Flavour is quite bitter. Body is medium. I’m particularly fond of rye IPA and this is a really nice example of the style. Crisp, fruity and bitter.

Bottle at home. Aroma is light malt, saison yeast, slightly tartish fruits, citrus, lemon peel, mild spicy and herbal notes. Flavour is light to moderate sweet and moderate to medium bitter. Body is medium. This Saison gets the job done just nicely.

Bottle at home. Aroma is roasted malt, cocoa, chocolate, touch of pine tree, liquorice, hint of fruits and hops, touch of coffee. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter. Body is medium. Pine is not as strong as I expected, but that’s okay, this is a very agreeable Porter.

Bottle at home, batch 2015 09 16. Aroma is dark malt, wood, some whiskey, touch of juniper and dark fruits, roast, some coffee, cocoa, liquorice. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter. Body is medium. Not as full as I’d like, but the aroma has some complexity to it. Nice one.

From tap at Noordelijk Kerst- en Winterbierenfestival 2016. Aroma is citrussy hops, orange, sweetish malt, fruity and hoppy. Flavour is above moderate sweet with a bitter finish. Body is medium. Nicely hopped brew.
