Description
With a foundation in homebrewing in 1992, Paul Kavulak set about to experiment within a hobby that would prove both entertaining and, at times, refreshing. Over a period of roughly 13 years, and with the able assistance of his wife Kim, this activity led to the opening of the Nebraska Brewing Company’s brewpub in Shadow Lake Towne Center in Papillion, Nebraska, on November 17, 2007. A new production brewery and taproom were opened in January of 2014. Located on the south side of the Omaha Metro, but still a large part of the Omaha Craft Beer scene.

Nice blend of cherry, apple, and pear aromas. Cloudy amber, little head. Flavor is triple sec up front with oak and maraschino cherry notes also present. There is also an impression of brett, but my glass may have just needed a rinse. This is a big beer with quite a bit of heat. Tasty, but I’m beginning to tire of these big sorts of beers and wouldn’t want more than one.

Tap @ Crescent Moon. Cloudy, light banana yellow appearance with a small, white head. Coriander, moderately spicy, orange peel, yeasty, witbier aroma. Slightly spicy, orange peel, coriander, easy drinking witbier. Carbonation seems a bit low, though I could be wrong. Pretty good witbier. Refreshing.

There have been a glut of rye beers of late and as this one shows not all can be winners. Sampled on draft at 3R6P this beer poured a clear pale golden color with a medium sized foamy yellow-white head that lingered and left incredible lacing. The aroma was perfume, floral and grassy hops. The flavor was dry and bitter with moderate perfume and grass and a touch of vague spice. The finish was long, dry, bitter and perfumey. The body was on the light side of medium. Disappointing.

Sampled on draft at D’s Monroeville this beer poured a medium caramel-amber color with a large foamy orange-beige head that lingered and left incredible lacing. The aroma was sweet pine, spruce and a bit of apple. The flavor was tangy with intense pine resin and light grapefruit and undertones of herbal hops, sugar, caramel and nut. There was a strong boozy presence throughout that really grew with each sip and became fairly spicy. The finish was very long with pine, grapefruit and hot alcohol lingering. Fairly full bodied. Solid.

Draft @ Sunset Grill and Tap, Allston, MA. Hazy gold color, massive carbonation. Soapy head, light lace. Nose of light clove and bubblegum. The taste is much of what you’d expect from the nose, wheat, clove, and some spice, Very light body, has a smooth creamy mouthfeel. Doesn’t hold a candle to the German Big Brothers, but overall; it is a refreshing light, easy, summer drinker.
