Description
The Obergärige Hausbrauerei Uerige (top-fermented craft brewery) is not a museum, but an exceedingly modern food business where a craft rich in centuries of tradition is carried out. It goes without saying that the Reinheitsgebot, or Purity Law dating from 1516, is still adhered to, because its results are good and lasting, relying, as it does, on nature as one of its main factors. Which is exactly what we do, too: our yummy droplet is made of nothing but water, barley, wheat malt, and our Uerige yeast.

bottle, donated by pivnizub, rated in December 2009. Deep amber colour, large white head. Bitter-sweet, smooth palate, typical Altbier flavours going on. A delciious and very smooth beer. I could drink this any time.

Bottle from bierkompass.de. Nice bottle! Poured ruby color with a medium white head. Aroma is nutty, very malty with some toffee. Flavor is caramel, fruity hops and caramel. Incredibly tasty, so full of flavor. Wish the bottle would have been bigger.

Bottle. Amber colour with an off-white head. Hard to describe the taste, lingering sour/bitter taste. Dry long lasting palate. Unusual

Deep muddy brown coloured body with ruby and toffee highlights and a very thin tan head. Aroma of raisins, caramel, malt, toffee, cherries, figs and pungent alcohol. Full-bodied; Deep pungent malt, alcohol and pit fruit flavours that show a lot of bitter sugars, strong fruits (deep raisins and prunes) and a overwhelming toffee and caramel flavour. Aftertaste shows a strong alcohol bite, pungent malt and a never-ending bitter fruit note - fairly nice! Overall, an old-school barleywine made before the style existed - but showing to German characteristics. Nice to sample - strong as hell, more body and complex flavours than a doppelbock and worth trying if you can find it! I sampled this 33 cL swing-top bottle purchased from German Gourmet in Falls Church, Virginia on 22-May-2010 for US$4.75 sampled at home in Washington on 15-June-2010.

Sampled on draft at Zeno’s in State College PA this beer poured a murky dark brown color with a very small brown head that lingered and produced some lacing. The aroma was sweetish, nutty and lightly fruity. The flavor was bitter with sour nut, caramel, cherries, elderberries, tobacco and a touch of wood. The finish was long and malty with lingering fruity and tobacco. Very full bodied and nicely complex. The alcohol was well hidden. Nice.
