Bottle at the Royal oak. A mostly clear amber brown coloured pour with a a lasting beige head. Aroma is semi sweet, dried fruits, cola cubes, earthy, twigs, mealy apple. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, cola cubes, dried fruits nutty, mealy. Palate is semi sweet, oily moderate carbonation.. Nice.

Bottle from the Royal Oak, Borough. It pours crystal clear copper with a handsome fluffy white head. The aroma is bright, zingy, tangy, musty, funky, barnyard, hay, gooseberry, white grape, lemon - lime and pie crust. The taste is crispy, firmly dry, snappy, punchy bitterness which lingers, peppery spice, pithy, zesty, lemon, lime, waxy peel, floral and fragrant with a drying finish. Medium body and moderate, fluffy carbonation. Bright, moreish and subtle depth. Moreish.

Bittle at the Royal oak. A clear golden yellow coloured pour with a lasting loose white head. Aroma is semi sweet, earthy grains, playful yeast, esters hedgerow hop, green berries. Flavour is composed of earthy straw grass, firm grassy bitterness,.. Palate is semi sweet, rounded, fine carbonation. Really interesting.

2001 vintage. I couldn’t get the damn cork out of this bottle, i had to dig it out, so i ended up with a crap load of cork in my beer, but i don’t think it did anything. Well pitch black pour, with zero head. Aroma is loaded with burnt malt, burnt molasses, burnt soy, and lots of booze. The Flavor isn’t that bad, lots of licorice, and more burnt everything! This reminds me alot of the sam adams triple bock, just not as thick, and a little more drinkable. I can’t see myself finishing the bottle though.

nice light brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, some smoke, and a light nuttiness. Flavour is slightly roasty, i’m getting a HUGE metallic taste i just cant shake, it lingers quite a bit. The finish is bitter, and smokey. As i get near the bottom of my glass, the metallic tatse seems to mellow a bit, but its still there. But now i can taste the roasty nuttiness in the flavour, a decent porter, without the metallic tatse, would have been awesome.

Cask at Roebuck, Burton on Trent. Pours the classic “bitter brown” with a medium sized foamy off-white head and excellent lacing. Malts to the fore in the aroma alongside some traces of yeast. In the mouth it is on the borderline between sweet and bitter, with malts, autumn fruits and hints of hops and pepper. Later comes some traces of ginger, whilst the hops increase and lead to a slightly dry finish. This is decent.

Half-pint. Crystal clear amber body, filmy layer, upper part lacing on the glassware. Moderately caramel malts on the nose, hints of green hops as well. Mixed flavour profile of mild caramel malts, grass, and mid-dry hops. Distant bittersweet end. Clean taste and easy to drink. (London, 11.02.2025).
