Description
The brewery Slaghmuylder was founded in 1860 by Emmanuel Slaghmuylder. Around the turn of the century his son Ernest took over the company. He married Marie Van Roy, daughter of a brewer family of Wieze. His three sons opened a new brewery in 1926 which could start immediately with the new brewing process for lager beer. During the war of 1940-1945 brewing restarted for high-fermentation ales. It is only in1958 that the brewery started again with the production of low-fermentation beers. In the mid sixties the three brothers were succeeded by their sons. From 1979 on, the three nephews started brewing the Witkap Pater beers on request of brewery "De Drie Linden" from Brasschaat. In 1981 the Witkap Pater brand was officially taken over by Slaghmuylder. Beginning of theeighties the brewery was equipped with separate fermentation and layering cellars for both high and low fermentation beers. Brewery Slaghmuylder remains a unique family company that builds on a rich tradition.

Bottle. Pretty standard pale stuff, rather flowery, spicy, reminiscent of wit a bit, nothing in great intensity though. High carbonation, easy drinking. Good even if a bit simple.

On draught at the Brouwzaele. Cloudy pale blond with big white head. Don't remember it tasting like this before, but was very nice. Aroma very saison-like, bubblegum, and fruity. Taste was a bit creamy, yeasty and nice and fruity. Not much bitterness and very crisp. A definite good'un.

Citrus, caramel and apricot in both aroma and flavor. Thin with a slight bit of skunkiness, but I like it.

Frothy head. Hoppy, grassy aroma with vanilla. Yeasty, hoppy, strangely enough refreshing beer. has some characteristics of a witbier, but has the hoppiness of a Crombe beer. Just a hint of tartness and grapefruit. Intriguing beer full of quality.

Yoghurt and metal in the aroma. Some apple sourness in the flavor together with milk, fresh cheese, caramel and chocolate. Just a hint of metal. Milky aftertaste. This beer seems to me like a mix of a flemish red and an abbey double.

Grainy apple aroma and flavor. Somewhat dusty with just a touch of hops, the apple dominates. Hopbitter aftertaste. Disappointing beer.

Bottle. Golden color. Clear, but not filtered. Greapefruit overshadows the hops in the aroma. Light flowery hopbitter flavor with grapefruit and a hint of blackcurrant. Very refined flavor, glorious aroma. Delicately balanced. But sadly a rather short finish. Still a very nice beer.

Bottle, gift from Eduard Morshuis. Blonde with the tiniest chunks of yeast floating. Fruity (mango) aroma. Mangoin the flavor, but also some hops, although the fruit rules. Fruit aftertaste. Almost powdery mouthfeel. A touch medecinal.

7,5% ABV, according to the bottle label. Dark brown color. Caramel and coreander in the aroma. Caramelly sweet flavor with ginger, coreander, mint, vanilla and anis. Some bitterness in the aftertaste. Sticky mouthfeel.
