Description
Tigertops Brewery started in June 1995 by Stuart and Lynda Johnson (now of the Foxfield Brewery in Cumbria). Nowadays, brewing is under the control of Barry Smith known to many as "Axeman".
Barry enjoys experimenting with continental recipes and continental yeasts. It is based behind a private house at Oakes Street in Flanshaw near Wakefield, West Yorkshire, , and whilst perhaps not being as well known as some other micro breweries in the area, has produced a number of award winning beers appreciated by those who have tried them.

Bottle. Bier Huis, Ossett. Pretty murky, deep copper colour. Fine and dense, lasting, off white head with some legs. Nose has toffee apple. Brioche loaf. Hint of caramel. Punchy, stewed hop leaf. Taste has a big old sticky sweetness, followed up by leafy, steeped hop bitterness. Medium body feels slick and sticky. Fine carbonation. Lingering leafy bitterness to finish. Mega tasty beer that verges on old school DIPA territory. Probably sub £4 a pop, too. Wish I’d stashed it.

Cask at Hops, Crewe Pours a cloudy golden amber with a small cream head. Aroma of yeast, bananas and apricots. In the mouth the texture is yeasty with flavours of orange, apricot, grapefruit and hints of cloves. Finish has some orange. A bit non-descript really, but then I’ve never been overkeen on wheat ales in general.

Calderdale Beer Festival 2019, Halifax. Golden-blonde, it’s a very easy ale and golden in design and style. It feels like it should be hoppy-sweet but no real sweetness exists in its taste, which might be the effect of the maturing in the wood cask. There is some however in its nose.

From wooden cask, third shared with Finn at Manchester Beer & Cider Festival, Wood Bar. Late straw-coloured body, spotty lacing from a dissipating white head. Restrained smell of herbal hops. Mild taste of canned fruits and pale malts. Rounded mouth feel. Just alright. (2nd day of the festival, 23.01.2020).
