Bottle/Fest. A- Licorice, caramel, raisins, floral. A- Copper color, clear liquid, off white head. T- Licorice, caramel, dark fruits, floral, mild spice. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, balanced finish. O- No idea of the age on this bottle, nor have I even heard of Rooie Dop before now. Of course, being brewed at De Molen I figured it was good. Lots of different flavors and aromas happening. Hard to pinpoint many of them. Sort of like a porter/dubbel hybrid? Whatever exactly it is, it was a good interesting beer.

Bottle @ home, bottled October 2014, so over 3 years of age. Surprised I hadn't rated it yet, as I'm sure I had it at one Utrechts Brouwers Festival... Black color. Huge beige head, in fact, I had a large glass, but had to wait twice until most the foam was gone so I could pour more. Aroma's: at first light sweet, roasted, fruity, later on it's full on ground coffee, some fruity sourness that you often get with coffee. Retronasal still lots of ground coffee, some sweetness, chocolate, roasted malts, fruity sourness. Flavor: light moderate sweet, roasted moderate bitter, with light sourness. Gushing in the mouth in the beginning. Long finish with hard roast, moderate bitter. Still very enjoyable.

Bottle produced on 04. july.2014. Pours opaque deep brown. Small capuccino-coloured head. Aroma: dark malts, molasses, walnut, port wine, minor aging oxidation, some bread, roast. Medium body. Light to medium sweet taste. Rich malts. Pretty vinous. Molasses, toast, minor roast. Light minus bitterness. Being an unconventional impy it is still good.

Dark brown coloured body with a paper-thin tan head only coating the top and fading very quickly thereafter. Aroma of burnt sugars, light earth, pitted fruits, raisins, grapes, prunes, plums, grain, rye, cacao and a touch of other fruits like apricots and pears, but these are relatively mild, but the big notes here are in the sugars. Medium-bodied; Assertive alcohol and malt flavours dominate with some grain, rye, hops and earth around, but the prunes and plums along with some raisins and other dried fruit flavours also come through, and leave this sweet at the end. Aftertaste shows some grain, earth, pungent alcohol warmth with toffee, but mostly all about the pitted fruits and dried sweet fruit notes that this leaves from the raisins, plums, prunes and apricots that all come through flavour-wise and with those definitely above the malt and toffee notes. Overall, a decent beer with some good flavours, but much too thin for the style, the alcohol and the complexity - this is begging to have more of a mouth-coating feeling, however it leaves the palate clean and only showing the sweetness. Decent, but if there is another beer from this brewery at this price point versus a traditional beer from De Molen, I'll stick with the latter. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from New Beer Distributors in New York, New York on 10-June-2017 for US$5,99 sampled at home in Washington on 25-November-2017. This beer was brewed on 31-March-2014 as well and kept for most of it's life either on the way to New York from Holland or at the store itself. Brew Date: 31-March-2014 // Purchased: 10-June-2017 // Sampled: 25-November-2017

Bottle courtesy of kraddel, thank you sir! Shared with Aminatchime as well, pleasure drinking with you. Slightly hazy pale yellow color, white head. One appearance point off for the ugly bottle, sorry. Aroma of dusty lightly earthy overripe lemon. Taste is dusty lemon with light funk and a tart finish. Not bad.
