Bottle from De Molen Brewery Shop, Bodegraven, Holland, consumed inside ?Frank? (camper) at Camping Het Rieven, Landsmeer, Nr Amsterdam, Tuesday 2nd October 2012 Pours really black with a huge lava like flowing tan head, in fact the head is foamy & immense. This is a stunning stout, it’s rich with heap’s of coffee, chocolate and cinder toffee. Thick in the mouth, smooth, glorious. This for me is as good as any of the big stouts at Borefts in fact it is better than any I tried, superb. I understand that this was brewed at De Molen by a group of experienced home brew enthusiasts under the tutorage of De Molens Head Brewer (Menno?) well done to all concerned. Fantanstic beer, now why didn’t I buy more of these? A8 A5 T9 P4 Ov17 4.3

(Bottle, Monk’s Café Wallingatan, Stockholm) Black colour with huge, rocky, pale brown head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of coffee, dark chocolate and dark rye bread. Roasted, malty taste with black coffee, dark chocolate, dark rye bread, toasty oatmeal, a touch of liquorice, hints of rum and a generous coffee bitterness. Almost full body, fairly sweet. Very tasty and well balanced. Excellent stout.

33cl bottle (thanks Cunningham!) Pours hazy amber with a huge off-white head. Hoppy aroma with malt, caramel, tropical fruits, citrus and hints of pine, spices and yeast. Sweet, fruity and malty with a balanced bitterness. Citrusy and bitter finish with a nice and bitter aftertaste with grapefruit. A pleasant and balanced IPA.

Tap at Exress de Lyon, Paris. Pours clear, bright orange with a moderate, fluffy white foam. Enormous tangerine aroma. Big sweet flavour, lots of tangerine and orange citrus, light herbs and pine, some sweet bread. Full in body with average carbonation. Finishes with a bit of warmth, some resinous pine and sticky sugars, pectin, further tangerine character. Some grassy hops in the aftertaste. Very solid IPA.

Bottle from ABC Beers, Den Haag. Cloudy amber pour with a bubbly head. Nice inviting hoppiness in the aroma as one would expect. The flavour was all I was hoping it would be. The Amarillo, Cascade, Chinook and Columbus hops work well together. There was a little bit of sourness in the flavour and on the palate which isn’t commonly found in American IPA’s, but that’s not a bad thing. The palate did develop as the beer became warmer too, but not positively. It was served cool and was very refreshing. This was my fiirst Chica Americana and I will buy more from ABC, which is perhaps is the best compliment I can pay this beer!

330ml bottle. Black with very huge, long-lasting, frothy to creamy, moderately lacing, tan head. Toasty, dark malty aroma with a grainy touch. Taste is initially moderately sweet dark malty with an intensening minimally flowery note and a touch of honey; a dry hoppy note comes in, transforming eventually to dry oaty and minimally roasty in the finish. Nice evolution of taste with notes slightly besides the standard coffee and chocolate flavours. Nice.

33cl bottle, Bottled on 29/05/2012 from Hopduvel.
