Bottle. Pours clear dark brown with a brown head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma is full of roasted malts with a relatively strong dark fruit note as well a chocolate and a bit of an alcohol note. The flavor has a decent amount of alcohol present, but it is accompanied by chocolate roasted malts and a hint of dark fruits.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Buy Rite - Jersey City, 2/17/11

Aroma: Immediately this one hits you with tons of whiskey right on the nose, there's a little bit of a pine hop presence and rye hiding in there, but it is completely overpowered by the booze
Appearance: Pours a mostly clear reddish-orange color with an off-white head and decent lace
Flavor: More balanced than the nose, whiskey flavors, hop bitterness, spice, caramel, and pine
Palate: This one drinks pretty smoothly, the carbonation is fairly soft, some heat is also present
Overall Impression: Look, I enjoy a good barrel aged beer, but if I wanted to drink a whiskey I would have bought a whiskey. This one just got completely overpowered by the booze to the point that it didn't really work for me. It isn't bad, but I just don't really like how the barrel aging accented (or overpowered) this one. I just don't like my IIPAs to taste like a bottle of whiskey. If it accents the beer, fine, but if it overpowers it, it just doesn't work for me. I don't know, I'm torn on this one.

22oz bomber. Pours a viscous brown-black, opaque. Big soapy beige-brown head. 14 malts and 14 hops, I can dig it. Wow. This beer is awesome. Big and rich, but smoother and easier to drink than a lot of beers that are in the 8-9% range. Big complex malt tones..brown sugar, caramel, toffee. Becomes a little more rugged as you sip on it, big sticky mouthfeel. Refined and complex.

Enjoyed from the \"Bargain Bucket\" with friends at the Globe Pub in Chicago, IL. Appearance a somewhat cloudy amber with a rich white head. Aroma caramel and hops, also a bit of yeast. Taste alcohol and beef jerky, really strong, also a bit of malt I guess, just really potent stuff, its decent.
