Pilsner: Golden colour. In 2008, i found this very dry, but today it is quite sweet w bland macro grainy aromas and flavours. Too much caramel and almost none of that great Germanic hoppiness I enjoyed four years ago.
Organic Pilsner: Quite pale. Crisp, with moderate hoppiness and a slightly bready hop note. The balance is nice, but the flavours are quite light. It’s only a small step up from the Organic Lager. 5-1-6-3-12 = 2.7

Amber coloured body with orange highlights and a small off-white head. Aroma of pale malt and some american hops with little else. Light to Medium-bodied; Malty flavour with a nice hoppiness with floral qualities. Overall, a decent apa from canada! I got this pint on draught at a small pub in Toronto, Ontario and not in that stubby bottle pictured! I sampled this one on 09-April-2004 with my good friend Jon (JONR888710).

This porter pours a dark brown with a tan sporelike creamy head. Lots of roasted coffee and malt scents. Small amount of cocoa too. Initial sip started with a smooth almost flat flavour bursting with coffee and burnt grain. Finish is smokey with a little chocolate flavour. The palate is burnt coffee and a hint of caramel. Very rich but delicious.

Golden-amber colour. Nice whiskeyish aroma with pale & breadcrusty malts. Firm, toasty, whiskeyish, with a caramelly palate. Medium body, perhaps a touch watery in the finish. Fresh, complex.

Wonderful smeel of coffee and cream, with a slightly hazy black robe. Intense coffee taste with a smooth bitterness in aftertaste. Great stuff.

I will preface this rating by stating that I was never a huge fan of Denison’s Mrzen. I always found it a weak link in their lineup (except the smoked version). But Mill Street brewer Michael Duggan has demonstrated that when he wants to (ie. not during batches of Organic Lager), he can brew some serious beer. So putting his skills together with Denison’s impresario Michael Hancock seems to have put this Oktoberfest through the roof.
Bright bronze colour is quite eye-catching, though if you tasted this in one of those frozen space-glasses at Pure Spirits you’d probably not notice. Not much head, though. Aroma is typical Oktoberfest fare – bread crust, iron, hints of nuts and caramel. The palate, however, is a new level. Richly malty, very toasty, with lots of bread crust, and slightly smokey toffee notes. Full body, lots of melanoidins. Long, complex finish. In terms of flavour and palate, this is the most complete Oktoberfestbier I’ve ever had. The strongest outing yet from this vibrant upstart.

Bottled. Near black. Intense mocca aroma. Very roasty. Soft maltiness subdued by an overpowering coffee flavour. Salty licorice finish.

Very dark brown with a nitrogen cascade & light brown head. Espresso-like aroma with smokey undertones. Rounded body is thick and creamy. Flavours are coffeeish, chocolatey, slightly nutty. Sweetish finish. Dessert-like and satisfying.

Toasty aroma with some metallic hop notes, soap, crackers. Chestnut brown colour with no head. Light to medium body. Carbonation is low but insistent. Palate is woody, toasty with some light chocolate notes that contribute to an overall earthiness. Sweetish, crackerlike, slightly nutty, slightly oily finish.

Almost black – certainly looks nice. Huge coffee nose with the requisite vegetal notes of too many beans. This shows on the palate, too – all coffee beans and nothing else. The malts are thin, underdeveloped. Hops are nowhere to be found. All the bitterness is derived from the astringency of roast beans. This is completely unbalanced, and only marginally drinkable as a result. Coffee beers should have both coffee and beer.
