Description
In 1999 the brewery was established in the ''Commanderie van St. Jan'' in Nijmegen. This 12th century monastery has since been our production location and also the place where beer has been drunk most for years. In Brouwerscafé De Hemel, the 12 taps are always filled with different brewes from Hemel. Beer production takes place in the cellars of the Commanderie.

(Bottle, Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 3 Aug 2009) Ruby red colour, slightly hazy, with brief white head. Malty, sweetish nose with notes of dried fruit, wild berries, port wine and raisins. Malty, full taste with red berries, dried fruit, caramel and raisins. Full body, sweet. Oily texture but smooth and well rounded mouthfeel. Nicely balanced and slightly vinous. Very nice beer to savour slowly.

Clear amber with a lasting white head. Aroma of caramel and bready malt, with dates and other fruits, roses and a hint of alcohol. Sweet and malty flavour with some fruit, and a drying alcohol finish. A fine, if a little too sweet barley wine.

On tap @ de Wildeman. Hazy, reddish golden with a small, dense off-white head. Aroma is fruity like peaches and oranges together with spices. Flavor is fruity and caramel malt with some spices. Medium body, quite refreshing and easy to drink.

On tap at de Wildeman 06-06-09 Pours gold/light amber, a great bar but poor light makes this very difficult to be precise. It also has a white head. Aroma is slightly Pilsner like, with hops and some sweet malts. This tastes a touch sweet but nice bitterness to balance, it’s hoppy and clean tasting. A7 A4 F7 P4 Ov14 3.6

Tap @ in de Wildeman. Hazy orange color, medium head. Spicy aroma, some cinnamon, some orange and mandarin, bit malty. Slight malty and peppery taste, bit fruity, and again the cinnamon which is blended quite nicely in the beer. Served with 3 small apetizers, nice.

Tap@ Café Morshuis Albergen. Pale amber color, hazy. Wheat and citrus in the aroma. Wheaty sweetish flavor with citrus and traubenzucker. Some distant flowery hops, persisting and getting even stronger in the aftertaste. Not bad.

On tap at In de Wildeman. Slightly hazy amber orange colour, dense white head. Aroma of fruits, light grainy, some sort of spicy citrus, a bit odd. Flavour is sweet, fruity, light spicy, grainy light bitter finish. Tastes a lot like Helse Engel. Medium bodied, soft carbonation. OK.

tap at Arendsnest in Amsterdam - Pours lightly hazy amber. It smells malt and some citrus. The flavor is sweet and fruity with a dry, mildly hopped finish. IPA? I’d not have guessed that. It’s a tasty brew, but doesn’t have the hop load I’d expect from the style.
