Bottle, Co-op, Headington, Oxford. Pours brown in colour, aroma is quite sweet with malts. Taste is also quite sweet but fruity, this isn’t bad but nothing special.

500ml bottle from Tesco. Attractive clear reddish brown with lasting thin off white head. Toast and dark fruit aroma. Hops are present but a little understated hints at orangey fruit. Just a little candysugarish and false in mouth which gives away the pasteurisation. Mind you the rest of the beer almost makes up for it. Good dark fruits, good juicy malt and then more burnt toast and some gravely bitter hop. Holds its distinctive flavours even in the bottle version, but I prefer the fullness of the draught version. Nice drop of beer though and that burnt toast thing matched with the fruit and hop is a real hit.

Cask handpull at Phoenix, Canterbury. Pump clip said 4.2%. Deep chestnut/mahogany colour with lasting beige head. Fully juicy malt in mouth, bt of toasted malt on end. Hop is evident on end, bit spicey. Warming pleasant dark bitter. Some dark fruit/malt on aroma. Spiceyness is very pleasant. Pretty good autumn beer.

An orange beer with a lazing light brown head. The aroma is sweet and very fruity and flowery hoppy. The flavor is sweet and very fruity combined with a light floral hop note, leading to a bitter end with a caramel note lingering for a long time.

Cask at JDW, Penny Black, Bicester 22-10-06. Reddy/Brown in colour very little head, aroma fruity and sweet this is replicated in the taste with a definate sweetness and syrupy fruitness I could liken it to being a bit like eating a strawberry opal fruit then having a swig of a standard bitter, unfortunatley I was also drinking the Belgian Fruit Beer Brasserie d’Eccousannines??, whilst lovingly cradling my just purchased Thomas Hardy ale to take home, Loz had thoroughly detested the Belgian beer and was now sharing this, so my taste buds were being tortured with all manner of fruit flavours none of which tasted particularly authentic. Not as bad as the Belgian beer but that is in no way a ringing endorsement.

Cask handpull at Folkestone Wetherspoon’s. Red/copper colour with disappearing beige/pink head. Artificial perfumed strawberry aroma. Awful in mouth. Fruit and beer not integrated. Chalky. Like drinking liquid strawberry Rennie indigestion tablets. Awful.

Dark golden body with a tiny little head, but with good "Kirchenfenster". Very light malty to the nose. Caramel malty taste with a bitter touch towards the end. Well balanced, but not more than a ordinary bitter. I also had a haft of Bateman’s Rare Beer on cask (3.8%) - but this beer turned out to be a mis-brew of XB and did not changed my ratings (both found in well kept condition at The King’s Arms, Norwich 24.09.2006).

Half pint on cask. Almost black body without any head. Not much aroma for a porter. Watered mouthfeel. Dark fruit and bitter chocolate in a rather dull sense of taste (The King’s Arms, Norwich 24.09.2006).

Half on cask. Amber body with nice clarity, but no head. Dark fruity aroma. The flavour has got a malty foundation with dried fruit behind combined with spicy notes. Dry bitter finish. Alright, but far from great (The King’s Arms in Norwich 24.09.2006).
