Bottle picked up at Sainsbury’s, Kidlington, 27-07-06. Pours a copper colour exceptionally clear. This tastes crisp, fruity but a bit sweet as well, some hops and bitterness, an ok beer but you would really expect more from this brewery.

500ml bottle from Sainsburys. Copper colour with lasting off white head. Floral hop and green apple aroma. Some pear drop. A bit empty in the mouth, malts could be more assertive. Over carbonated. Spritzy hop finish. Bit thin overall but nice hops and apple.

Bottled. Pours golden, with a decent off-white head. Malty and hoppy aroma with some sweet caramel-notes. A light aroma of yellow apples tries to hide in the background. The flavor starts, and lasts, with the apples, then theres malt and caramel, along with some hops. Medium, a bit dry, body. I finishes off quite fruity, and once again with yellow apples. A clean and crisp ale, but it doesn’t stand out from the crowd. (060626)

Cask at Blue Bell York 3 May 06. Dark brown. A creamy head. Hints of fruits. Apricot? Different and enjoyable.

Cask at the Penny Black, Bicester, (Wetherspoons) 21-05-06 Like the previous contributor I thought this had a slight sour taste which I put down to it being a bit old. Not really impressed with this very dark beer and one that I would ordinarily have taken back as despite some roasted notes and other things kicking around there I was always thinking that this beer was not as it should be,

Bottle picked up from Tesco, Aylesbury. Dark amber colour, not much of a head but slightly off white what there was. Aroma was sweet and taste was initially of toffee, bitterness came through as did maltiness and hops were residing there at the back of the queue. A good beer that is very quaffable.

Cask handpull at Westgate, JDW, Canterbury. Ruby brown colour with thin off white head. Toffe and liquorice on aroma and in mouth. Some powdery choc/coffee towards the end. Could be affected by diacetyl, also served too cold. Alternatively it is a toffee/liquorice dark porter style beer. Not great like this though. Re- rate - I had this a day or too later at County Hotel, JDW, Ashford and it was lousy also. Not so much toffee, but the sourness was going nowhere. I had to leave it.

Picked up from Morrisons 12-05-06. Golden very clear looking beer. Nothing exceptional, some interesting maltiness and hoppiness and a bit of a fruit tang otherwise little bit bland.

Bottle from Morrisons Aylesbury 20-04-06 Amber colour with a slight maltiness in the aroma. Smooth and well balanced beer that that is most definately malty, slightly sweet but but not overly so and there is a faint trace of vanilla lingering in there which is rather pleasant. A good beer which I drank before a Snecklifter I should have done it the other way around.

Cask gravity dispense at Chequers, Wareside, Herts. Very dark brown/black, no head. Bit like an old ale, quite sour with prune fruit flavour. Some raisin. Quite a lot of flavour on the finish. A proper sour porter. Sour prune finish. Odd, but good to have. Bit of coffee throughout too.
