0.33 l can from 'Mr. Hop', best before March 2026. Clear, very dark ruby to black with a large, frothy, almost stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, gently roasty aroma of caramel, cocoa, coffee and vanilla. Quite sweet, malty, gently roasty, slightly bitter and a little artificial taste of caramel, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, some burnt bread crust and light gummy bear, followed by a short, moderately roasty-bitter, a little dry finish. Medium body, gently effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Quite okay, would be even better if it wasn't for that subtle artificial taste in the finish.

Bottle shared by Joes. Opaque black color, average sized beige head. Aroma and flavor are malts, brandy and bourbon influence is clearly there, way less peat than the original, light green apple peel, malt bitter, bitter. Quite alright.

Bottle at home shared by Joes. Jet black color, medium sized light brown colored head. Aroma is (Dutch) "een bak turf!", huge peat, finger paint I used as a kid. Flavor is similar: huge firm peat, peated bitterness, band aid, iodine. Way more than I remember this beer to have. Also, we tried a 2017 old Hemel & Aarde alongside this one and that was way softer and way more balanced, with way less peat. I liked the original better, much better.

0.33 l bottle from 'HEMA' (Zutphen), best before December 2026. Hazy, deep amber with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, off-white head. Sweetish-malty, minimally fruity and a little boozy aroma of caramel, cinnamon, anise, raisins and almond. Quite sweet, malty, moderately bitter, slightly fruity taste of caramel, almond, raisins, cinnamon, anise and light clove, followed by a medium long, moderately bitter, gently boozy finish. Medium to full body, gently effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Quite okay, much more boozy than expected though. A typical product of modern De Molen, embodying all of the stupid developments craft beer has gone through.
