Bottled at Ølbaren, Copenhagen Transparently black, brief head. Unusual aroma of dusty strawberries and tobacco. There’s sweet malt and somelight coffee. Surprisningly slim with lots of ester. Gets more comlicated as it goes: salty chocolate with candied strawberry and bubblegum. Finishes with salty licorice. Interesting, but complicated.

Courtesy of bierkoning, ty Edo! Hazy muddy sahti-like orange brown color, small white head. Aroma has banana, cardboard, yeast and caramel. Flavor is very yeasty, peppery, fruity, finish to Saaz hoppy bite. Bitterish-peppery aftertaste. Sweetish and weird.

(Cask at GBBF, London, 5 Aug 2008) Cloudy copper colour with brief, white head (leaning in the mire direction). Fruity, yeasty nose with apricots and dried fruit. Fruity, yeasty taste with notes of apricots and a nice, dry bitterness in the finish. Rather far from an English bitter, but still an interesting beer.

(Cask at GBBF, London, 5 Aug 2008) Black colour with brief, beige head. Roasted, malty nose with notes of wood, dark fruit, raisins and prunes. Roasted, malty taste with lots of wood character, dried fruit, raisins, vanilla and lots of liquorice. Long, vinous finish dominated by wood and liquorice. Warming and very nice.

Bottled (from Cracked Kettle). Golden colour, huge white foamy/fluffy head. Aroma is malts, some grassy hops and mild notes of hayishness. Flavour is honey, malts, grassy hops as well as some mild yeastyness. As it warms up, the malts get abit sweeter.

Rerate, 330 ml bottle, from the Norwegian importer. ABV is 4.5%, 30 EBU. Bittering hops are Sladek and Amarillo, dryhopping with Sladek. So what makes this beer "English"? Not the hops, anyway. Hazy golden colour, large white head. Very nice aroma of fruity hops. Well balanced flavour, nice fruity hops, while the bitterness is moderate. Medium dry, light bodied, but not watery. Decent enough, but was possibly even better on cask. Original rating: Cask at the GBBF 2008, gravity dispense. Cloudy golden colour, moderate head. Nice fruity / berries aroma. Berries in the flavour too (blackcurrants, boysenberries) with a moderate but nice hoppy finish.

Bottled (from Cracked Kettle). Reddish amber colour, big fluffy white head, some lace. Aroma is fruity hops along with grass and some mild barnyard. Flavour is alcohol, citrusfruits, mild yeast and hints of some apricot. Alcohol mixed with yeast in the finish gives a quite licoriceish finish to it all. Very pleasantly balanced.

Served from the oak cask in which it had been aged, at the GBBF 2008. Room temperature, gravity dispense. Pitch black colour, minimal head. Intense aroma of tar, woodwork, coffee, liquorice and alcohol. Intensely roasty flavour with coffee, alcohol, tar, liquorice and dark bitter chocolate. Pretty impressive, but certainly not easy drinking.
