Bottle pours a lemony yellow color. Lots of sediment makes it look very murky. Small head. Aroma is very present - starts off with a citrusy-lemony zing but has a deeper burnt malt aroma as well. Think burnt brown sugar with lemon highlights. Taste is lemon-y cookie dough with a lemon like bitterness at the end of the flavor. A light body for 8% and no hint of alcohol. Its got a bit of funk and a strong malt aspect. Seems I get a lot of lemon flavor here, damn that little prankster.

Pours a deep, chunky brown into a trappist glass. Substantial conglomerate head keeps it’s own. Date, fig and sour dried fruit notes. Medium- to full-bodied. Slightly sweet with a bitter, rotting fruit finish. Would have rated higher until the finish...

Dark ruby red, big creamy brown head. Grassy hoppy, a bit roasted and chocolaty nose. Grassy hoppy, quite medium-bodied, roasted with notes of candi sugar. Quite biting alcohol kick here with long bitterish aftertaste. Background flavor is somehow similar to many Dutch ales. Interesting characterful strong ale.

(Bottle 33 cl) Unclear, dark brown with big, lumpy pieces of yeast. Lovely, brownish head that never collapses completely. Fresh, hoppy nose. Brilliant notes of roasted - no actually it’s burned - malt and some brown sugar. But the mouth feel is mainly dry with a very pronounced bitter finish. Very sophisticated. 230705

Bottle - 8% version Black, hazy body. Lightly brown head. Spicy aroma of burnt malts, liquor, vanilla, flowers, ... Very complex and interesting aroma! One of the loveliest smelling beers I’ve ever tasted, you just can’t make any remark about it. The flavour is moderately bitter and lightly sweet; a little bit disappointing after the very complex aroma. It’s not bad, but certainly not as tremendously good as the aroma.

(Bottle 33 cl) Strong, pale ale with a pronounced yeast sediment in the bottle. Unfiltered with a decent, creamy head. Marc Beirens, the brewmaster, claims that he makes his beers more bitter every year. I’ll recommend, that he stops this pursuit now. Loterbol is extremely hoppy. Goldings-hops are added two times and it’s even dry-hopped with Styrians. The hops almost paralyze the tastebuds, but without covering the underlying sweetness completely. A dark amber beer with a huge light orange head. The aroma is very yeasty, but also with notes of caramel and coriander. The flavor is thin, containing hints of caramel, yeast, leading to a dry finish, where the alcohol gives a slight burn.

Bottle at Heeren Van Liedekercke Blond, hazy body. Rocky white head. Spare lace. The head is mostly lasting. Overwhelming aroma of light malts, flowers, coriander, vanilla. Lightly bitter flavour. Lightly sweet, moderately bitter finish. Medium bodied, soft carbonation. A nice bitter flavour, not tremendously good, but still very nice. Duysters is becoming one of my favourites. I have to mention my previous rating of this was a lot worse (2.6): there was some saltiness in it. But you should pour the bottle very carefully and maybe only pour 3/4 of the bottle, because there’s a lot of sediment! And it sure doesn’t look like having a positive impact on the beer.

Bottle. Malty, sweet aroma. Dark brown colour, big creamy semi-stable light brown head. Quite bitter and hop-aromatic flavour. Turning malty and finishing with OK bitterness.
