Description
The former name was brewery De Brouwketel, which was in operation at the current location at least from 1706 onwards. In 1884 the brewery became the property of the Duysters family. In 1968 the company was transformed into Duysters NV (limited liability company) which was active as a brewery until 1973.

The Loterbol brewpub started in 1995 in a renovated part of the brewery from the 18th century. in 2002 brewing started in the old brewery building of 1908. Both locations are still used for brewing.

Slightly hazy golden blonde coloured body with a very thin white head. Aroma of fresh apples, yeast, corn, metal, raisins and caster sugar. Full-bodied; Effervescent taste up front with a lot of pungent malt, metal tastes and a good spicey fruityness tucked in with some sugars, alcohol and a very complex flavour. Aftertaste shows some sugars, toffee and mild corn flavours. Overall, a pretty good beer - showing a ton of complexity throughout. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from Oliver’s Beverage in Albany, New York on 22-December-2008 (which i’ve never seen this bottle in the whole of Belgium, ever) sampled at home in Washington on 03-March-2009.

[33cl bottle] Hazy, reddish amber colour with a big and beige foamy head. Yeasty, moderately sweet and toasted malty aroma with anise, dried fruits and a touch of spicy and herbal hops. Light-sweet flavour with hoppy bitterness, medium body impression with a smooth carbonation. Toasty malty and slightly fruity taste of figs and prunes. Toast-malty and moderately fruity, slightly spicy finish with a delicate hoppy blend. Well-rounded brew [20.I.09].

(Bottle, Akkurat, Stockholm) Dark reddish brown colour with huge, firm, beige head. Fruity nose with caramel, dried fruit, raisins and prunes. A touch of acidity in the aroma. Fruity, malty taste with notes of dried fruit, raisins, prunes and slightly sour hints of wild berries. Bittersweet finish with a hint of alcohol shining through. Not overly sweet, balanced bitterness. Nice beer. In short: tart and spicy berries.
