Description
The former name was brewery De Brouwketel, which was in operation at the current location at least from 1706 onwards. In 1884 the brewery became the property of the Duysters family. In 1968 the company was transformed into Duysters NV (limited liability company) which was active as a brewery until 1973.
The Loterbol brewpub started in 1995 in a renovated part of the brewery from the 18th century. in 2002 brewing started in the old brewery building of 1908. Both locations are still used for brewing.

BB Nov 2005. Very dark brown. Thin head. Oxidizes earthy, slightly sherryish aroma with some woody notes, hints of treacle and subtle dark fruits. Sweetish, fruity (grape, pear, light berry) with soft dark sugars and some moderate oxidized/sherry character. Fun stuff.

Bottle from Utobeer. Opaque, dark brown with a decent tan head. Sweet aroma of molasses, berry fruit and yeast, with a hint of spice. Flavour was similar, with a full mouth feel and slighlty bitter finish. Smooth, enjoyable drinking.

(bottle, 75cl) Hazy, reddish brown colour with a collapsing red frothy head. Moderately sweet and yeasty almondy cherry-fruity aroma with a delicate malt character. Moderately sour and slightly bitter-sweet flavour, medium bodied with a calm carbonation. Dry cherry-fruity and slightly malty taste with notes of almonds; dry fruit-accented and slightly bitter finish with a delicate malty sweetness. Well-rounded and moreish brew. 13.I.09

Cloudy and chunky yellow, completely flat. Aroma of barnyard and sour apples. Flavor has citrus, apples, sour from start to finish, and dry finish. Decent body. Interesting combo, resembles a lambic, especially regarding its apparent strength - deceptive, but delicious.

From tap, Kerstbier Festival 2009. Pours dark brown with a little off-white head. Aroma is roasted malty. Light caramelish and vague spiced. Dry spiced flavoured, roasted malty and slight bitter note. Dry and slight phenolic finish. Lasting roasted malt impression not that hoppy imho.

33cl Bottle from Achelse Kluis. Golden orange colour, white head. Aroma is very spicy, yeast, fruity, apples, malts. Flavour is very yeasty (St.Bernardus like), malty, light spicy, bit of coriander, fruity, bitter hoppy finish. Medium bodied, just a tiny bit overcarbonated. Nice blond ale.

33cl Bottle from Achelse Kluis. Deep dark brown colour, big thick dense creamy beige head. Aroma of sweet malts and dark fruits, musty yeast. Flavour is sweet malts, dark fruits, grapes, yeast, light tart, some chocolate, some alcohol, light bitter hoppy finish. Medium bodied, firm but subtle carbonation that tingles the tongue. Has some St.Bernardus Abt qualities, tries to be that beer imo, but fails unfortunately. Doesn’t make this a bad beer, on the contrary, just not great.
