Description
The former name was brewery De Brouwketel, which was in operation at the current location at least from 1706 onwards. In 1884 the brewery became the property of the Duysters family. In 1968 the company was transformed into Duysters NV (limited liability company) which was active as a brewery until 1973.
The Loterbol brewpub started in 1995 in a renovated part of the brewery from the 18th century. in 2002 brewing started in the old brewery building of 1908. Both locations are still used for brewing.

Muddy brown pour. Initial sweetness falls flat and heavy on the taste buds. Very dirty beer. Lots of sediment and earthiness. Rated 4/13/10

Bottle @ Miami Fandango ’10 gathering. Cheers to Diego for the share. Hazy golden, no head. Aroma and flavors, Belgian yeast, fruit tartness, white grapes, apple, pear with a grainy mouthfeel, somehow it felt as if the beer had some wood characteristics. Tasty brew, a lot going on here, drinks very much like a Geuze.

750ml bottle pours a translucent, purple red with a little creamy, pink head. Aroma is fruity, musty, sweet, strawberry, cherry, lightly cheesy. Flavor has an intense cherry pie flavor, strawberry jam. Heavy carbonation, medium bodied. Not too tart/sour.

Hazy red, pink head, massive lacing. Aroma of cherries, and that’s about it. Taste is fruit, black pepper. Bitter, metallic, acidic background. Interesting, but a bit odd.

Re-rate May 2024. Bottle @ home. Unclear deep golden body under a decent white head. Aroma is malty with wood, some fruit and classic funk. Taste is smooth with soft malt, mild but district wood, refreshing fruity, some acidic lemon and nice funk. Balanced body and fine aftertaste. Nice one.
375 ml bottle. Hazy orange body with almost no head. Aroma is fruity and acidic with a funky Bret impression. Flavor is refreshing fruity, acidic and rather dry, even with a impression of a sweet malt. This is both unusually and delicious ale.

Bottle: Murky-brown with a smaller "dirty" head; burnt malt and burnt sugar in the nose; moderate to solid sweetish flavour with a light acidity, quite full bodied; caramelly and sugary finish with a light acidity and with a light (burnt?-)malty bitterness in the aftertaste. Not a giant pleasure....

Musty, dirty aroma. Low carbonation. Very smooth palate. Flavor has some brown sugar, caramel, and malt. How the heck is this not a dubbel? Rich palate, and full flavored. Easily recognizable Belgian yeast. One of the better beers of this style I have had in a long time.

Bottle: Almost clear, bigger loose pinkish head, that quite quickly collapses, deep reddish-amber coloured; dry sourish fruity (cherries, what else) and - not artificial(!) - almondy nose with some malt underneath; quite dry sour-bitter flavour with a well hidden sweetness, medium bodied; solid fruity and almondy finish, balanced by a delicate malty sweetness. What a surprise! A fine brew......
