New rating 2013. Still a very good beer, I like this stuff. Had this again, quite a good very dark beer. A very nice stout that never even gets close to stupid impy stout and I’m glad. A very friendly beer for those who like mild stout, yes, some of the better stouts I’ve had, maybe even the best. Surprized its owned by carib but I like other beers they make too. I think back when I first tasted this, it was owned by another company. Old rating (FIRST): Bought this beer at JR’s Beer world in rochester, pa. $1.13 per 12 oz bottle. I will use this to compare all my ratings to. Purchased this because I love dark beers and ’ratebeer’ had it rated here as a 95 percenter. I don’t think I can afford more without the wife raising an eyebrow off the visa bill. This beer has an almost burnt charcoal flavor. It leaves quite an impression on the taste buds. Nice texture . Very pleased. Dark thick black beer with a dark tan head of about 1/2". Has about the right fizzyness. What is the difference between this stuff (xxx) brewed at Boston and the real stuff from england? There is a big difference in the ratings. I like this. Yuenglings black and tan is a little below this in taste, but Yuengling may be a slightly better buy at 75 cents per 16 oz can. You cannot say this beer is watery. Be careful, this stuff is like black dye, don’t spill it on any of your light colored shirts.

Bottle. Aroma of candied pecans and malt - like the nut vendors at a German Kristkindlmarkt. Pours like syrup - midnight black with small head. Slightly sweet pecan flavor initially that changes to a nice strong malt flavor. Not a very strong flavor but very nice. Smooth and well blended. Great stuff.

Bottle. Motor Oil body and dark tan head. Roasty chocolate aroma. Very strong chocolate and coffee flavor. Supprised by this beer, great find.
