Had cask conditioned at the Goose Oxford 07-04-06. Long while since I’d had a pint of this so I thought I would reaquaint myself. Amber coloured beer, sweet to start with but then a slight bitterness kicks in, some hops. A good beer but has been surpassed in the flavour stakes by a lot of the new kids on the block.

A very dark brown beer with a thick brown head. The aroma is sweet roasted with a slight hint of chocolate. The flavor is sweet roasted, but without power both in body and roastiness, and the sweetness has an artificial tinge - cant’t think why. Too weak for me - but for a light stout it is nice.

Black in color with a thin light brown head. Caramel and toffee aroma. Sweet caramel flavor along with hints of coffee. Somewhat astringent for the alcohol present.

(Bottle 33 cl) Clear, fully golden with a small, white head. Aroma of malt, brewing syrup and alcohol. Rather full-bodied with a heavy sweetness and distinct notes of corn. Slightly sulphurous finish. Drinkable and better than it’s reputation - although that’s not saying much. 200106

I have had this one a couple of times over the years. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer pours thick, black and oily with a large dark brown head. The aroma is sweet chocolate syrup. The mouthfeel is exceptionally thick, creamy and smooth. The flavor is light sweet chocolate with some roasty malt undertones and some light floral hops. The finish is mildly bitter though remains creamy. I have been growing more fond of this one though in general I am not much of a stout drinker.

Cask at The Star Inn Bath: Amber coloured, quickly vanishing froth; very shy hoppy nose, very light fruity taste, kind of bitter fruitiness in the end. Pretty bland.

Dark color, brown head. Aroma of chocolat, roasted malt, some coffee. Very thick body. Taste of sweet malt, chocolate again, bit roasted. Quite sticky palate. Nice example of a sweet stout, but with this ingredients i rather have a belgian double or strong ale.

Cask at the Hog and Donkey, Kent Bizarre pub in the middle of the marsh just south of Herne. The beer was on gravity. Mid brown in colour with some hops and some malts. Bit thin in mouth with some acidity, short finish

Pours black and thick like oil. Has a 1" dark brown head. Looks amazing. Very strong chocolate aroma, amazing. Flavor is rich chocolates, milk and dark chocolates mixed together, without much more of a flavor. Damn tasty beer with a nice, smooth bitter finish. Overrated? Hardly. Few compare to this.

Dark golden with a low but creamy head. Smells like vodka........hmmm. Tastes nothing but alcohol. Awful stuff.
