Bottle. Creamy good mostly lasting head. Dark yellow colour. Heavy malty aroma and taste. Average finish. Soft carbonated. A good pale lager.

24 oz. can, with the A-B "born on" date of 6 July 05. Well, what did I expect. Not much, but let’s see: Can’t deny it looks nice enough. Straw colored body under a fluffy head that seems to have a little too much stabilizer. Some malt, but just a touch of soapiness. Just has that same canned beer flavor of any other Bud. "No bitter aftertaste" generally means no hops, and that’s just what I get. It’s stereotypical of me to think there rice adjunct in this, but frankly, that would make it no different than any Bud, and that’s pretty much how it tastes, minues the trace of beechwood.

Pitch black color, with dark fruit, dark chocolate and liquorice in the nose. Medium bodied with heavy chocolately mouth and dark fruit and a linger dark chocolately finish with moderate bitterness.

This hazy golden beer doesn’t know what it wants to do. It has a yeasty mouth with some cloves and is slightly tart and has a light finish. Usually Kirin’s beers are well made, this is not.

Yawaraka-san, your pallor is like that of a gaijin’s buttcheek. Your aroma as pleasing as that of a troop of snow monkeys deep in Hokkaido’s vast forests. I am honoured to be in the presence of your vast fields of grain and in awe of the purity of the water that dominates your character. Truly, if you could get hold of the abstract esters that plague you like the proverbial acne on a lard-laden American teenager, you would be a happo-shu master.

Golden colour. Grainy aroma with hints of higher alcohols. Very watery, slightly minerally and grainy. Reminds of Chinese lagers.

My first ever happo-shu! Who says you can’t have any new beer experiences after 5000? This, I presume, is the grainy brother of Ichiban Kuronama. Dark brown colour. Rapidly fading head. The aroma is mainly chocolatey, with hints of toast and caramel. The body is quite thin, with a little burnt character but little else. Some light toffee-accent sugar. Finishes water and grainy. I suppose it is relatively inoffensive for a beer with so little malt it is not even considered beer in its home country.

Very light golden-brown colour with huge bubbles and no head. Clean, caramel-accented aroma. Light body. Hint of brown sugar and little else. Watery finish.
